Default TA22 Trim Removal + Rusty Sills

Hey guys! Got a couple questions I was hoping you could help me out with as the old man has finally let me use the shed!

I was wondering what the procedure is for removing both the trim running along the top of the doors and the gutters?
Also my sill panels are absolutely shot as I'm sure a lot of you have experienced before. If you have any pictures relating to the repair of said sill panels I'd really appreciate it.

    Cheers

Hi Pattymac. To remove chrome strip in side door opening you need to remove two screws at front end of rubber seal then carefully pull rubber seal out of chrome mould then unscrew chrome strip/mould carefully twist bottom of strip, along gutter, outwards and it will release from gutter. Do not force gutter mould else will bend very easy.
I did my sill on passenger side a couple of years ago but didn't take pictures. If you look in ebay sometimes bluewiremotorsport advertise them, or take a pattern of front and rear of sill to sheetmetal shop. Most shops can fold or roll some for you. I would recommend getting two because if one side is gone the other won't be far off either.

Thanks for the speed reply! OK I'm not sure if I understand completely, is that instructions for both the top of doors and the gutters? By gutters I am referring to the trim running along the roof if you get what I'm saying.

With the door trim once I seperate the strip to access the screws how is it reattatched as it looks like it's glued on??

    Thankyou!

No problem. Yes I mean the trim along roof.
The rubber strip fits into a channel section, pictures attached, and sometimes the metal trim may be glued to inside of door opening, which is why you have to use care when removing.

Sorry but can't get photo to attach even when reducing file size. Is a lot easier to explain with photo. Always had trouble uploading to forum.

    Regards
    Tony

The easiest way to explain is rubber seal is held in by a lip on each side. There is two grooves, one each side, of chrome channel for seal. Can't remember if seal channel and gutter trim are one piece or two separate pieces.

Roof rail trim is like ToyTA22 says - pull out the rubber seal and then unscrew. It'll almost certainly be fixed in place with glue, sealant or double-sided tape, so can take a bit of careful work with a screw-driver or similar to pry it free. The gutter trim is just a clip-on, so you can pop it off with some careful leverage from the underside.

Best bet with your sills will be to cut them off and replace. If they are in really bad shape, there is likey to be some rust damage behind the sills that you'll need to attend to (towards the rear wheel well in particular).

Tony - I struggled with photos as well for ages. Eventually figured out how to do it. Upload pics to Photobucket (basic account is free), and then copy the link address into your forum message (Photobucket provide a special function for copying the correct link format) and the picture will display in your message.
