As you will find as you do your research, how well a box will last will come down to how it's treated, how it's been treated, your clutch, and what car it's in (weight will affect load).
The W58 is a great box, smooth shifting, strong for it's size. As with the rule, "no substitutes for cubes" the same can be said of the R154. It's strong, because it's built like a brick shithouse. Unfortunately, it shifts like a truck too
If you have the option of the R154, go for it, they are a stronger box, plainly due to their size. They have problems disintegrating a thrust washer, but fixes are available for that, and aside from that they're pretty fullproof.
On the flip side, the W58 is cheaper, more abundant, better shifting, it has a lot going for it. It is more likely to be broken though, once again due to pushing it way beyond the limits of a gearbox of its size. (depending how you drive obviously).
