Ova Heatin Problem!!!

I have just installed a new water pump and reconditioned my radiator, but its still over heating big time.
And also its spicking heaps too......

Would like some HUGE help!

And the cars a ST185 Celica GT4 3SGTE.

huh?

when you replaced the water pump, was the block and head flushed?

also, when it overheats, is it a constant thing, or does it only happen when stationary for a period of time?

im assuming thermostat was replaced, as any reputable place wouldnt think of putting old things back in...?

yeh forgot bout that haha yes a new thermostat was put in.
The whole block was flushed and not just once either

what about the old head gasket problem? if you can with out over heating it to much (witch might lead to warping if your not carful) try and get it to you nearest natrad....they do a free cooling system check.

get a teekay and compression test. Overheating either points to water pump , thermostat, blockage, And finally headgaskit problem. As you have changed the rest you are only left with one option. If it was a 7M than it would have been only BHG.

Lets hope it is fine.

yeh i did the comprision test and it was all fine on 20psi...
so other wise itll either be a head or blockage...

How much would it cost to get the head reconed and who would be good to do it (company)???

Going back to basics here, it *IS* actually over heating isn't it? its not just the gauge lying to you?

when you re-filled the coolant system you bled it up really good? i seem to remember GT4's being a bit funny about that?

you haven't put in new thermo fans or anything like that recently?

as the other guy asked, does it cook just driving along? or in traffic? or?

Yeah, i too remember a discussion on bleeding the cooling system of 3SGTEs. Cant remember the resultant bleed method, but if you search the old forums, you should be able to find it.

GT4's don't have anything techinical about bleeding them. MR2's on the other hand do.

Easiest way to bleed it. Have the noise of the car sitting high, and start the car and warm it up, and top up the coolant as the bubbles rise outta the cooling system.

also a good way of see if if its a BHG. The Nose knows. *sniff sniff*

Gen2 3S-GTE's are reknowned for blown head gaskets, especially if pushing more then factory boost.

I think its common for 3SGTE's to get airlocks in the heater core hoses, you can just pull off the one going into the bottom of the tap, start the engine and wait until coolant pisses out, then put it back on.

you should be able to just run with the heater on and the air will bleed out of the system.

the thermostat wasnt put back in the wrong way was it?

if you have a bad air-lock in the heater hoses (some cars have very convolouted systems) you sometimes can't get enough pressure on one side of the heater to clear a blockage without driving the car..

if the head is cracked you will see bubbles when you look in your radiator.

Start the engine from cold with the radiator cap off. Watch the coolant in your radiator until it either starts swirling or bubbling.

swirling = good
bubbling = bad

if the head is bad you may also see oil in your coolant (floats on top of the coolant) and if it's really bad then the coolant will literally blow out of the radiator. But I don't think that's going on for you.

Are you sure all the hoses went on right when you flushed the rad and re-installed everything? You could simple have bypassed/blocked something accidently.
