So far it's been suggested that i:
- Check for Spark after it dies (Coil / Condensor / Resistor / could be overheating?)
- Check if Plugs are wet after cranking for some time (To check it gets fuel after it dies)
Hi Guys,
I Purchased an MX32 Cressida late last year.
After taking the 7 hour Journey (on a trailer) home and trying to get start it it would run, and then after a few minutes it would die / stall completely - only to start again after 10 + minutes.
It's getting fuel (Can see the fuel in the fuel filter cycling through)
I've replaced so far:
Oil
Filter
Spark plugs
Leads
Distributor Cap
Rotor Button
Fuel Filter
Almost New (brand new carb)
The only things that i can think to replace are (I have these parts already)
Coil (Brand new GT40R)
Vacuum Lines
Condensor (New Bosch Replacement)
Distributor Points (New Bosch Replacement)
Additional Information:
The coil is getting quite hot - And Looks Original - I will be replacing that on my next trip up to work on the car.
Air Pump was blowing quite a lot of air ? Almost sounds like it's honking when it revs?
Any suggestions? I really want to get to modifying it (Tastefully of course!) but it needs to be reliable first!
Cheers,
Dan

Started Car this time:
Would stall after 1-2 minutes (after a rev spike from 2k> 2.5k) -
Replaced Condensor on Distributor - Same Problem
Bypassed Resistor on old Coil - Same Problem
New Coil with Resistor - Same Problem
New Coil without Resistor - Same Problem
Replaced Points in Distributor - Same Problem.
Tested Fuel when cranking - Fine - Fuel is very clean / no crap inside it.
Swapped with working coil / resistor from another X32 - Same Problem.
Going to go and start testing everything with a test light / multimeter / test for spark next
Throw it in the bin!
Could be blocked /partially blocked idle circuit in carby?does it run but not idle?
sounds like it runs until it gets off choke then wont idle.
Remove idle mixture screw and blow compressed air into where screw was.carby cleaner might do the job too if haven't got air.
Try that Scott

Does it progressively get worse? If so, in what kind of timeframe does it occur? Or does it cut out like you've turned the ignition off?
The 18R-G. The GOOD 2 Litre Tractor motor.
Well Everybody!
Turns out that it was the GT40R i had bought ( and had run without resistor to test if it had failed)
This then killed the coil, put original coil back on with resistor and it would start and then die.
Turns out the tank had 750g of rust in it, a shotgun shell, a large bullet and a bottle cap.
Still not 100% but i did 30-40KM's in it today with only small hesitations.
Will order another coil and run the resistor as the original coil is well.. original!
Updates soon![]()
