on the side it will say 40phh or 44 phh
Is there a code somewhere to tell me the size of the Solex's? Or if I'm suppose to measure it, wheres the best spot measure?

Is that visible while they are mounted to the engine?

I think this is "Rodger" site. Very helpful guy!
looking at the front they have markings on the right had side just under the fuel line going in on the bottom section
Sorry, I can't see markings anywhere on them. I measure the intake on them though, it's 44mm, so are they 44mm solex's than? or do they mark them by something else??

It is the diameter size of the throttle butterfly. Measure the manifold side and you will be close.

Cheers Brett.
The two most common sizes Mikuni made in the PHH sidedraught range were the 40mm and the 44mm known as PHH40 and PHH44. The 40mm Solex and Mikuni have a throttle plate stamped #165. The 44mm Mikuni has a #175 stamped on the throttle plate. The rare PHH50 Mikuni is still around and is sometimes known as a Type Q, it is stamped with #180 on the throttle plate. Type Q was also made as a 40mm and 44mm.

Hi Marcus.
The Solex Toyota used most commonly on the 18R-G is 40mm in size. It is a 'cold weather' version of Mikuni's PHH40 (Type R). So if you have the Solex with the integral starter/jet cover with the electrical heating connection then you have the Type T and is indeed a 40mm carb.
If you have earlier solex carbs (type S4 or S5) you can still work out what size you have without removing the carbs. Both S4 and S5 40mm have a sleeve that fits into the main bore to reduce that end of the carb down from 48mm to 44 or so. These sleeves are held in by a set screw and nut like the ones for the venturi. If you have three set screws along the length of each bore (sleeve, inner venturi, outer venturi) then you have PHH40s. Even if the sleeve is missing there will still be a threaded hole in the bore.
All PHH44s do not use this sleeve and the set screw hole is blank.
Regards
Rodger
