Default Strange noise from clutch/gearbox/driveshaft ra23

    Hi guys,
Was hoping I could get a bit of an idea of what noise I'm hearing coming from under my car
I will explain it the best I can and hopefully someone might have experienced something similar or knows a few things I can check and possibly rule out.
The car is a 76 ra23 running a 3tgte. I believe it's a supra box with hilux driveshaft and diff (2wd I think) I didn't do the conversion and couldn't get all details of who I purchased it off
Anyways the noise is kind of hard to explain but it's like a bit of a rattling/stressing noise, as if something is about to break. The car is ok under fairly heavy load(up it) but then when under light load just cruising it tends to happen, and as soon as the clutch pedal is pushed in it stops immediately. I can't notice any difference in the way it drives since the noise started. I've had a couple of visual inspections and can't see anything that seems out of place.
I know there's not a lot to go off there but any help would be appreciated before I resort to pulling things apart. Cheers

Sounds like the throwout bearing may be on the way out.

When you say you push the clutch pedal in & the noise stops have you pushed the clutch pedal down a long way near the floor etc to stop the noise, or just depress it slightly & hold it there, if you are just depressing it ever so slightly & the noise stops it sounds like it could be the throw out bearing but that doesn't explain the lack of noise under heavy load though, if the noise only stops when the clutch pedal is depressed down a long way it could be something engine related or could even be an exhaust bracket rattling etc ..

if it stops when you push the clutch in it would be the input shaft bearing in the gearbox, if the noise occurs only when you push the clutch in it would be the throwout bearing.

I know this is because it happened to me recently.

    Cheers,

ctrain, I think you would have found the noise stopped on your car when the you pushed the clutch in, was when the engine was running but the car sitting stationery, where as i'm sure Bruthrboodly is talking about pushing the clutch in when he is driving down the road & mentions nothing about putting it in Neutral at the same time either, as by just throwing the clutch at speed but not putting it in neutral the input shaft is still spinning & so some sort of noise will still be there as its still spinning, driven now from the back wheels ..

nope mine sounded the same under light load, heavy load you couldnt hear it but as i would come into carparks or driveways it was very loud in 1st gear, it could be any of the bearings in bruthrboodly gearbox.

A video with a good mic would be a bit of help bruthrboodly, if you can fucked that is ahah

    Thanks for the comments guys
yeah I probably should have explained in the original post this noise only occurs when the car is in motion and stops when clutch is pushed in all the way.
