Unhappy Blacktop 20V cam followers/lifter buckets

I'm in the US and I can't find a part# or a dealer/distributor outlet for 4AGE blacktop cam followers/lifter buckets. I am upgrading to another camshaft of larger duration and need new shim under lifter buckets. According to the info I have, these buckets are 23mm diameter. Any info, leads etc. would be greatly appreciated.

    www.amayama.com

    I picked up 4AGE, 1MZFE, 3SGTE and 1ZZFE buckets from them previously.

I think these guys make them... might be worth checking
them out, as the postage won't amount to much.

racermr2, what cams are you going to use? who is supplying them?

    This comment-
"I am upgrading to another camshaft of larger duration and need new shim under lifter buckets" is concerning.

I want 288 degree 9.5-10mm lift cams. My choices are Super tech, Tomei, and possibly Kelford. However, I'm not going to purchase a set of cams until I can get new cam followers/lifters for the 20V engine. I haven't found a source in the USA and I've contacted just about every 20V supplier I can think of to no avail.

OK, well, Jondee has given you all you need by way of supplies.

You do understand that the bucket in the arrangement has no bearing on clearance yes? the buckets will serve any cam you choose.(on some Toyota engines the bucket is the shim. Not here.) If you go supertech, the OEM components will be redundant.

You need to choose a cam, fit the cam, then measure for the appropriate shim. You may find that with Tomei or Toda, very little adjustment is needed, you may be able to rub back your stock shims to suit. If you need to go tighter clearance, you;ll need to purchase new.

The chart Jondee posted shows the shims in .4mm increments,. They would be available individually if you can find a parts dealer interested, most are not. Lithia Toyota maybe?

Email precisionshims and Lithia Toyota and tell them what your after, they (precision) will likely have already supplied them. If you hit a wall, post back and I will see if I can supply a source from Toyota for you.

Yes, I understand the lifter bucket has no bearing on the clearances. However, it has been my experience over 25 years of racing that one should NEVER put a new cam on used lifter buckets. Therefore, the reason for my inquiry. Here in the USA 20v lifter buckets aren't carried by many cam suppliers nor can they source them even from Japan as I've been told. I've tried Precision shims and they carry/can source the under bucket shim but not the actual lifter bucket. Further, I've contacted practically every known cam supplier including dealers in the USA and Kent Cams, Piper Cams in the UK to no avail.

To clarify the "20" designation in the above diagram denotes the number to a set.

Their is currently 17 units in Australia. Their is more in Japan. The price to me was $33 AUD each. You may be able to get a better price out of a member in NZ?

"However, it has been my experience over 25 years of racing that one should NEVER put a new cam on used lifter buckets".

Well, there's different levels of racing, there's the ones who do it at midnight, the ones who do it on weekends and the ones that do it for a living.

If you have an unlimited budget, you wouldn't be commenting on the price. Your statement infers that you would never put a new piston on a used rod, a new crank in a used block, a used valve on a fresh seat, a used retainer on a new valve spring, yet...amazingly, people who "race" do it all the time with great success.

IMHO based on actual experience, if your going to "race" this 20v, you need to put your buckets away in a safe place for reuse and seriously worry about something else.

Because something else is going to cause you problems down the track.

It may not be what you want to hear, but it is certainly something you need to consider.
