    Default 1GZ-FE hydro fan

I'm chasing a worn accessories bearing noise on my 1gzfe. I remove the fan belt and the noise goes away. And i'v narrowed it down to either the hydro fan pump or 1 of the 2 idler pulleys next to it. I'm leaning towards the hydro fan pump, as the pulley has at least 1-2mm of end float, forwards and back. A very noticeable knock when you jiggle it in and out. Spoke to a mechanic mate and he reckons it's not uncommon for vane pumps to be like that from factory and that might not be the noisy bearing. Just needing to know if they are meant to have some end float in the shaft/bearing from factory. Would be a very similar setup to a 1uzfe.

Let me know if you've had similar problems with power steering/hydro pumps. Also the vane pump functions perfectly, you can spin the pulley and can feel resistance, and the hydro fan spins.

With the belt off you can spin the idler pulleys easily & you will hear if the bearings are noisey , probably not so easy with the Hydro fan pump, to back up which item you think is faulty with the belt back on & the car running if you can get a very long screwdriver etc onto a metal part as close to each item as you can safely do & listen with your ear pressed onto the top of the screwdriver & you will hear where the noise is coming from ..
