    Default Air injection... 5m-e etc....

    Long time no post

Anyone got a 5me (or other crappy 80's motor with an air pump) sitting around with the air injection gear intact? Anyone able to take some pics / make some measurements??

I'm considering a dodgy retrofit, and the OEM air injectors might be the go. Problem is I'm nowhere near an old anchor to measure it myself

From memory the 5me has threaded insert wound into the head above the exhaust port/manifold, and into these thread the ferrules/tubes of the injector manifold.

Just after a pic or two to remind me of what it actually looks like, and I'd love to know how big (ie spanner size) those insets are, and what the OD of the tube going to the runner is. Pic of disassembled tube would be bonus points

    Lil help?!

    Cheers
    Ed

I went through some of the pics I have, and sadly they are all a bit crap and don't really show what you are after...

At a guess I'd say they take a 17mm spanner (thought I might well be wrong and it's 19!)...

From memory I thought there was a tapped hole in the head, and the air line ferrule secured into the thread on the head - it has been a while tho!
I also remember that I saw a fancy "blanking" bolt at some stage, that had a protrusion into the head, so it "looked" like a pipe to the head, but no air gear connected...not sure what the history of the blanking bolt was, where they were used OEM, etc. It just came in a head I came across once I think?

GT seems like a likely source of the info that you seek

And good to hear that you are still alive

Yeah, sounds similar to what I remember

Anyone wrecking a 5m with air pump crap on it?

The manifold tubes on a 5 ME are about 6 mm and extend well into the ex port , 14 mm hex on each tube , they are a bugger to remove as the tubes get carboned up and won't pull back thru the head . The best way to get them out is gently heat the tubes .
    18 r and 2 sc , 1 X , have air pumps and would be more common .
    What are you planning ?
