I'm sure you know that a Louder & harsher exhaust note does not necessarily equate to more power, it might sound better but could actually be down a bit on power
Running 1UZ-FE VVTi double 2" into single 2.5" , here's how it looked like in the process of building
What I'd like is basically louder and harsher note, closer to classic cars, while being able to switch to silent mode. Maybe gain a couple hp as well.
Have anyone had experience with some sort of exhaust flaps? Do I need single or double? Vacuum or cable actuated?
Currently, I'm not happy with electric butterfly actuator idea, because I believe it will soon get stuck due to road conditions

In this particular case, I regard power as less significant by-product of modification, so even if it gets a tad lower it would not be necessarily bad. After all I plan to keep the flaps closed most of the time. I'm more after the sound itself. Maybe another subject of concern is how to locate the extra exhaust outlets in the vacuum zone so the gas could not enter the cabin

just make a bypass around a muffler with some pipe and the flap fitted there. That way there's no issue with the exit of the gasses as they'll exit out the tail pipe as usual, however the gas will take the easiest path around the muffler. i would go electronic actuation of the flap like the BA falcon throttle idea, as it will be stupid easy to get it to work, otherwise you'll have cables and vac hoses coming out the wazoo.
just my 2c

Do Varex mufflers exist in Russia?

jabbatron long story short, we see lots of anti-freeze stuff dispersed on roads in winter season. That stuff is extremely etchy, it's almost guaranteed that any motor operated throttle will get stuck to the point its motor won't be able to turn it.
SHEPPO3930 unfortunately I have no picture of the rest of the exhaust system, but there's a resonator and a silencer there. Bypassing both of them involves too much fancy pipework.
Hiro I believe they would cost like half of my project, and besides I already like the tone I get with my current setup. Would be great to introduce 'loud' mode into the system while retaining 'silent' mode close to its current state

It's heavy oxidation that kills them. Moving parts just stuck to each other
Anyway, it's unnecessary details right at the moment. I'm more curious whether it's better to run double or single flap for a V8
