    Default ta22 1uzfe conversion

Seeking any info possible sump position, auto or manual, diff choice wiring harness, fuel systems upgrades.

Anyone that has completed this or partially completed this conversion would hugely appriciate info on any future problems pics would be great. Have seen the awd 1uzfe which is amazingly engineered and quite simply is a work of art. But also a fair bit out of my depth. So rwd will be fine for me.

Thanks for any info you can supply

Jaffa's AWD one is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not sure you will find too many more. Is this a legal swap in QLD? Or for a track car?

    Cheers,
    Chris

Don't think so mate. Ta22 is ~970kg so according to the NCOP the limit is 3,880cc, 1UZ is 3,968cc.

I thought it was off the heaviest weight the vehicle (any configuration) was released as and what ive found is the gt was slightly heavier weighing 1030kgs making it eligible for 4120cc correct me if im wrong please correct me on this though.

The mass of the vehicle referred to in Tables LA1, LA2 and LA3 is the original (unmodified) tare mass of the model vehicle fitted with the largest engine available for the model in Australia but without optional accessories (air conditioning, tow bars etc.). The mass of the vehicle, whether it is a sedan, station wagon, utility, etc., should be based on the heaviest sedan version of the model (not station wagon version) sold in Australia.
Unfortunately the GT was never sold in Australia. Sorry.

The 2T-G engine was standard in the GT model, which was not mass released in Australia. The 2T-G is a 4 cylinder in line DOHC displacing 1588cc’s.

I found this on this site in a ta22 specs thread and the gt weight was 1005kg sorry. My question is now what is the meaning of Mass released??? So does that mean you could buy one?? Or is that to much of a technicality for the authorities.

As far as I know the only GTs were brought in by people working for toyota for their own personal toys. You couldn't get one as a member of the general public. Others can correct me on this if I am wrong.

Sure, I know of tonnes of cars that break the current rules, because they were built before they came in. Also, different celicas had different weights. You could put a 1UZ in a T/RA23 or an RA28 for example. Even IF an engineer told me it was ok, I personally would not risk the immense amount of time and money that this swap will take only to be told afterwards it's not allowed.

The same thread said the LT auto weighs in at 980kg so that leaves the us at 3920cc 49cc short. Do you reckon i could just pay the rego for a 49cc moped on top of the car rego??? At least the transport department get what they want more money.

Haha, nope. IMO, if you're set on the 1UZ, sell the 22 and buy a 23. If you're set on the 22, go 2GR.

you will need to convert to rack and pinion steering if you want to put a 1uz in it. steering box will be in the way of the last exhaust outlet on drivers side.
