Default Best carburettors for an 18RG-U

Hi all i have recently acquired an 18RG-U for my ra23 and was wondering what are the best carburettors to put on that will give the best performace? 40mm, 45mm Webers, dellortos? What's best?

A set of rebuilt stock Solexs with a good tune are hard to go past. Of course the 40mm Weber option is a popular mod, in all honesty having driven an 18RG with both setups daily you wont really feel the difference between a good set of tuned 40mm Solexs and a good set of tuned 40mm Webers. 45mm Webers are able to be used but the jets will need resizing if you're just running the 18RG in factory form. 45's on a stock motor is really just for the wank factor.

Keep in mind by the time you buy a decent set of Webers and have them tuned you'd be able to have the stock Solexs rebuilt and dyno tuned. Last time i got a price for a rebuild and dyno tune (2010) it was around the $650-$800 from Burwood carburettor service.

Save your cash, just rebuild and tune the factory carbs.
    Cheers, Alex

Well the old solexs seem pretty worn out and i have found a pair of 40mm dellorto's with manifold to suit and gaskets for fairly cheap. Are these any good or still similar to the stock solexs?

I personally would not touch solex's, just my personal opinion & also the fact the throttle shafts don't run bearings like in weber & dellorto's, weber & dellorto's are close in the running in my opinion with solex last

I have heard from a few different places and people that solex's are often troublesome. Does anyone know why that is?

    Yes, I do know why.
It is because like any multiple carb set up they are viewed as complex by most tappet head clown boys, but that does not stop them from tampering with things they know nothing about. Soo when they can make no sense out of it & have missadjusted & de-syncronised them, they are shit. Totaly the fault of the stupid carbies; you see.
Grab those Dellorto's with both hands, that is if you have no carbs at all at the moment.
