Jamberoo isn't nearly as good as mac pass, but at least you can make your way to the pie shop and see how much traffic is there before making a decision.
Kangaroo valley same again but is a nicer, more scenic run. Also puts you closer to Berry which is always a good spot to head to on the weekend for a sizeable meal, drink and even ice cream.
If you head down mac pass or Jamberoo, too far away for a Berry trip (too much single lane road going down from Kiama/Gerrigong to Berry). Could always just head to Kiama instead and have some fish and chips and ice cream.
I just drove up mac pass yesterday (and earlier in the week too). They've just finished some roadwork and with the amount of resurfacing they've done over the last two years, the road is great now, only one section where the waterfall near the hairpins that you really need to slow down for (bottom scrapes if you're too low).
