I'd put a higher thermostat in it. And turn the fans on at 90-95.
From what I've read (admittedly 4AGE related) oil and coolant temps should normally be around 90 deg. Cooler than that isn't great for your engine.
HI All
The forged pistons in my 18RGTE are extra noisy when cold and still noisy when hot. I'm running 71 deg thermostat and the fans come on around 75 degs. The car runs around the 76-78 deg temp If I turn the engine off and let the engine "heat soak" then restart its very quiet until in temp settles back to around the 78 deg mark.
Should I change the thermostat and fan setting to say 85 degs? Will this make a difference?
Cheers
Alex

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
Thanks Hen
I'm going to get a 85 deg thermostat and readjust my fans to suit. Hopefully this helps!

Fitted a 82 deg thermostat and upped the fan to come on at 85. This has made a huge difference it now runs with very little noise.
