    Default Removing engine from AW11

Well, after a morning spent pulling my car apart, in tiny confines, I've come to the conclusion that it's going to be soo much easier just to take the engine out of the thing and be done with it. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice/warnings/reccomendations about taking the engine out of the AW11? Only other engine I've pulled from a car has been from the top, this will be a new experience...

    Cheers, RM.

what are you trying to repair/fix?
usualy you drop the engine and gearbox combined on the deck, raise the car up in the air and drag the eng/gearbox out.

depending on what you are doing and want to pull off the engine it can be rasied out the top leaving the box there.

I'll take the whole engine/box combo out. Dammit, there's heaps of hoses and crap connecting it to the car. Anyone got an estimate of how long it should take for a couple of enthusiastic first timers? Oh, and with all the fuel hoses, just pull them off and plug them up?

fuel hoses, just drain whats in the lines, as long as the fuel pumps not running, there shouldnt be too much leaking out.

that said, when youve drained them, just store them away ied up to something high, so the lines arent hanging.

Yep, got that out of the way. What a mission getting the loom out! 10 marks to Toyota for making the loom look like part of the engine, and for bolting it the hell down/running it behind other things. Engine's nearly ready to come out, all it needs now is the CVs out and it can come down! Anyone in WA know somewhere I can get new synchros put in the box fairly cheap, while it's out anyways?

is it an lsd box? if not, get another box as they will be cheaper than replacing the syncros by miles. FWD open sc boxes cost me around $90.
if lsd its not going to be cheap. i keep three spare lsd boxes so i can just unbolt one and fix one and have one ready!

DEFINITELY get the manual or an exploded diagram...

failign that, take pics of EVERY step.

sucks to put a gear in backwards and sometimes there are little tricks that save hours of frustration pulling a box apart.

Ok, I'm stuffed. How do you get the CVs out of the box? I've unbolted the struts, and swung the hubs back, but I can't get enough swing to actually get the CVs out far enough to come totally out of the box. Do I have to take the whole rear suspention apart?

    Cheers, RM.

when you take the engine out remove one of the struts (I think you have done this though) and pull the engine out sideways as the chassis rail actually dips up over the driveshafts, therefore you dont need to raise the back as much as if you were taking it out the rear.

I used jack stands on a cinder block on the chassis rail just behind the wheels and I had about 1cm clearance above the side chassis rail to the rocker covers.

EDIT: Just realised you should have had it out today anyway. How did you do?
