    Default Airbox Idea, need help

So the AE82 lives again after a small issue with the fuel system, but time to move on.

The idea I have with the airbox is take the top half of the stock ST box off, build a custom top half that mates with the bonett using a rubber sealer (??) so it seals tight. Have a STI style vent directly above it feeding it cool air. Have a filter mesh on the vent and run open trumpets of between 70mm and 100mm.

Would that work? Any potential downfalls of this plan?

Are you referring to the airbox or the plenum?

Any kind of bonnet vent seal will need to have plenty of flex in it as the engine can rock a fair bit on startup and when you rev, unless you want to have a complete shaker scoop setup like an old-skool muscle car.

Don't forget to think what will happen when it rains.

I run a clubman which used to have exposed sock filters hanging in the breeze out through the bonnet. Looked cool, but whenever it rained, the oil in the filter would turn to mush / jelly and the thing would slowly shutdown and stop as it went way too rich [it runs TPS only]. So I built an airbox fed by a scoop through the bonnet. It's much happier now, though sometimes the rain comes through the scoop and wets the TPS - making it slowly grind to a halt again as it over-fuels.

    Just saying - is all!

I reckon keep the air box, add a better pod filter.
Cut a hole in the bottom of the filter box and panel.
feed a flexible hose into it and run it from the front grill.

No water gets in, Air box still get low speed air, but gets the rush of cool air at speed.
