Default shock options for rt142 corona

    hi guys,
I'm putting new suspension under my corona and I'm having trouble sourcing shocks for it. Does anyone know what shocks from other cars are the same as a Corona?
Any suggestions on good places for shocks in the Sydney region?

    Cheers, Brad

RT142 front struts share the same part number as xA6x Celica / Supra (I.e. RA60, RA65, MA61, etc)
    http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/xref?s=48021-14070&mG=on

So physically any shock that fits xA6x should fit your struts...

You haven't been super specific with info regarding your car and desires so it's hard to help further... you haven't even said if its a sedan or wagon!

Monroe, Pedders, etc all have online catalogues that are easy to use to find out what they recommend (Not suggesting that you do / do not use these brands) and once you have a suggested part from them you can start trying to cross references to other places if you have a brand in mind...

If you want to get into more detail, pretty well all shock manufactures will have a catalogue available (you will most likely need to look for it / ask for it) that lists dimensions for all their products, once you have looked up the dimensions of the "OEM" replacement shock you can trawl through the catalogue and match up other options depending on what your goal is (lowering, etc).

Sorry I did leave out all the specifics...
Its a 1986 rt142 sedan and I'm lowering it with stiffer springs. The aim is to get it to handle as well as i can without spending crazy money and I am trying to stay away from coilovers.

I have contacted AJPS for springs and they have told me that the height i want to go will be to low to keep the springs captive so i am looking for shocks which have a shorter Droop than standard corona shocks to keep the springs captive.

Do you know if any of the other xa6x models have shorter droop than a corona? or have you heard of any shock brands that will make a shock with custom or adjustable droop?

    Cheers, Brad

Have a search on the forums for what the MA61 supra guys have done (hint SW20 MR2 is an option...).

AJPS should be able to help you out with shocks as well I would have thought?

To give you another option (and the one that I would look at going with - mainly because it should be the cheapest by far!) would be to get a set of the factory 'wet' oil shocks (they come in the same strut leg, but the shock absorber isn't a sealed cartridge. Your existing shocks might even be the factory oil shocks...!).

You should be able to find someone that can re-valve the factory oil shocks to suit the spring rate that you choose, and also limit the travel. I've had this done personally once in the past and was happy with the outcome. Shockreco in Slacks Creek QLD did the work (Not sure if they are still around, doesn't look like it at a quick search...).

Getting the shocks re valved sounds like a good option I will look more into that.
Bit of a dumb question but limiting the travel will help to keep the springs captive right?
