Default need help with a w58 to 4age conversion

hi guys ill keep this short and sweet. i am building a 200kw+ 4agte and need to run a w58 gearbox, i have the gearbox and adaptor bellhousing but im wondering what to do about a clutch setup? i know the shaft is different on w58 to t50 so a standard 4age clutch wont mate to it. does anybody here know a combo to use along with flywheel? ill most likely be running a stock small port flywheel or a gze one if i can find one. i searched on here for a write up but couldnt find one and google has not been my friend today i rang a clutch specialty shop and they must have seen me coming because he was rambling about an evo 9 pressure plate with a custom friction surface blah blah $2950 later i would have a clutch i kindly thanked him and hung up. is this what i am going to have to end up paying if i want to run this gearbox? surely some of you smart people know of an alternative which is far cheaper and readily available to me?

ive already done the conversion in my ra65, albeit with a 20v turbo not a 16v. You can use a slave cylinder and clutch fork from either an ra65 or ma61 for the bellhousing, along with the bearing. i used the stock silvertop 20v flywheel for now and i think from memory a 6cyl holden clutch disc (thats what i was told). i had an exedy heavy duty FWD kit for the car and i used the pressure plate for that and got a different clutch disc.

pressure plate can be anything that suits the 4age im 99% sure. you only need to change the clutch disc to suit the spline of the w58. i just took the flywheel and clutch pressure plate to my local clutch shop and told them i needed the plate to suit this and a w5* gearbox and they found me the right disc, otherwise you can list the cars that the gearbox is in and they'll be able to find specs.

i think the only things i had to change to make mine fit was a custom new clutch line cos the old one was too short, and i had to space the slave cylinder out from my bellhousing with a couple washers to get what i believed was the optimal spot.

been over a year now with the engine in and clutch is perfect! havnt had any trouble with it as for combo's, i know the 16v flywheel is different so you'll just need to find something and mate it all together. goodluck!

The basics are easy. You need a pressure plate to suit the flywheel diameter (and design, the bigger GZE flywheels have a bit of a funky setup). And a clutch plate to suit the flywheel diameter and input shaft splines. So if you use the 212mm flywheel you can use a standard smallport pressure plate and a 212mm clutch plate with Supra splines (this plate is in fact standard in some forms of Landcruiser, Hilux, etc).

Any decent clutch shop should be able to offer you something with the right clutch material and clamping force. But if you want a serious clutch it does start to get expensive (even then ~3k is way high).
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

yeah thats what i thought, thanks guys for the advice. i am slapping together an ae80 blk top 20v with 6spd currently as a quick side project as the old daily 2a started to get boring and i got myself an excedy stage 1 racing 3 puck cerametallic clutch kit for under $400 i knew the guy was trying to rip me when he started talking about custom this and custom that stuff. 3k is os giken territory haha well i guess i better make friends with one of the other local clutch shops and put some beer in their fridge so i can start getting this clutch sorted because i need to get my rotating assembly on the balancer soon and see how balanced my billet stroker crank really is haha. hopefully i get it sorted so i can make myself a write up for the how to section

Ring NPC in Brisbane. Was a few years ago but I got a brand new billet flywheel, evo pressure plate and 5 puck disc with splines to suit for around 600-700.

    Why not a 6 speed?

Toyota J160 with LEEN 4AG adapter and shifter relocation for fitment into an AE86, or E7 - http://gearboxconversion.com/

As for a disc... any competent clutch company can put a W5x/J160/big Toyota spline hub into a small 200, or 212 disc... it isn't rocket science....

and if you can't find one.... LEEN has those too €157.00

    Because 1800 euro plus box.

Shiny kit, but costs significantly more than a W58 conversion.
