does your engine not have a dipstick?

    - put three litres in
    - run the car for 10 seconds or until oil light goes off.
    - leave for 2-5 minutes.
    - check oil level on dipstick
    - ad amount of oil ( a bit at a time) to correct level
    - go for a drive and thrash your 1JZ

    thats it.

Depends on the sump. But I think it is around 4.8L

see the problem is that i bought a jza70 half cut but i had to put the front sump from the chaser... so i don't know if the dipstick is reading correctly so i was just wondering if someone knew exactly how much the car takes cuase i don't leak any oil, so it would on need to check it once a week just to make sure everythings right.

(p.s. i read the article about the dipsticks but i didn't know whether it would make the reading read low or high)

Measure how long your dipstick & dipstick tube is, you want the dipstick to be the same amount longer than the tube is as the measurements in the dipstick length thread.
For the record, my ex-JZX81 1J takes 4.8L, but I normally fill up the new filter before installing it & chuck the rest of the (5L) bottle in. Makes it nice & easy, & that's why I'd like to increase my 4A sump capacity to 5L. Pure convenience.

3L isn't going to be nearly enough, they take heaps of oil.. i also put 5L in i think, but my sump has been modded slightly and actually has less capacity..

yes this is something i would be interested to know, what oil does the 1J use?

i am about to get my 1j so does anybody know the specified oil in differant temperature ranges? or have the chart i would be able to look at from the manuals? cause i am sure everybody has their opinions on what oil they use

10-40 is pretty thin, i think im running something thicker at the moment, and now the mornings are really cold its a little rattly when it starts..i suspect a thinner oikl might actually help with that.. hmmm

i have been using shell ultra...but i don't like it, it has been a little noisy this time.
any other suggestions would be welcome
When you say penrite sin, what viscosity?
how about the castrol edge range of stuff?

in general though, i change the filter and empty the full 5 litres into the engine every time, it seems about the right mark.
jzz30 soarer by the way so mid sump
