    Default 22R vs. 22R-EC

    22R
    22R-EC

I was wondering if someone can tell me the difference between these two engines?
Would they use the same gearbox?

    Thanks

They are both the same motor, one is Carby the other is EFI.

The 22R is your standard 2.4L carby
The 22RE(C) is your EFI 2.4L, the C is california emissions spec iirc.

Both use G or W series gearboxes.

    G and W series?
I am after an A40D gearbox (auto), sorry, should have mentioned that. Would they both be found on the same engines?

G and W series are the manual gearboxes available. For example my 92 hilux has a 22R with a G52 gearbox in it... they are both interchangable.

As for auto's i'm a little outta the water on that one. Not sure to be honest.

Not sure if the 22R and 22R-EC use the same gearbox, but they certainly would be interchangeable if not the same.

IIRC the 21RC i yanked from my mates RA60 had an A40D clamped to the back of it. 21RC bolting pattern is identical to 22R series. Any box that will bolt behind any R series motor will fit any other R series motor. For example the 22RE which i used to replace the 21RC got the W50 from behind my 18RG bolted to it. Fits perfect, runs perfect and is still going strong.

IMHO, the A40D isnt worth its weight in dirt, its weak as piss, and its a crapotmatic to boot. 5 Speed manual is the go.

What vehicle is the box to go into, what motor is in it, what mods are done, and why the hell would you want an A40D??
