Sumitomo caliper rebuild - rt132 corona

Hi all,

Just picked up some front sumitomo calipers out of an 1981 rt132 corona, intending to use these in my xt130. Seals and pistons look as though they could use replacement..wondering if anyone has done a rebuild on any sumitomo calipers before? Tips and info appreciated. Cheers

Get them rebuilt by a brake shop.
It wont cost you much more than a rebuild kit, and then you can be sure its done right.

yeah id agree unless you have the tools to do it (air compressor and a special tool I had to make) you'll struggle getting the pistons out

I found a fitting that screwed into the caliper where the brake line went in and that fitting also screwed onto the airline, peeled the dust boots back and sprayed in some wd40 then wrapped the whole thing tight in a rag and turned the air on.
once the first piston shot out I found a small can big enough to fit over the piston but half the width of the caliper gap and had an adjustable rubber backed plate that sealed the hole from the missing piston and allowed the other piston to get forced out.
finding a plate like that will be hard I just happened to have one here.

Cheers. Will look into some pricing to get rebuilt professionally by a brake shop and see how things go from there. Sounds like that will be the most practical option
