Default 2jzge Auto speedometer function in MX83

In the middle of a 2jzge auto swap in my '90 Cressida. The Aristo automatic is more electronic than the mechanical trans in the Cressida. I'd like to know what's involved to keep the speedometer/odometer functioning since the Aristo trans doesn't have a cable for them.

    Thank You!

Your going to have to put an electronic sendor in for the transmission to function and you will have to fit a S2 dash to suit.
S2 speed sensor from a A340E should fit afaik

Or swap the valve body for something less electronic with a kickdown cable, probably the way to go tbh

Thanks, actually the aristo trans (NA) has a kick down cable. Where can I get an electronic sender? I really don't want to swap to an s2 cluster. Id like to keep mine. Any other way to go around this?

Must be completely different to the 2JZGTE Aristo box then, good thing.
I dont know a whole lot about these boxes, you may be able to stick the mechanical sendor out of a early MX83 box in and run with that? But if you need a digital one, S2 MX83 auto boxes have them. No easy way to keep your mechanical dash, will cost big $$$ to turn a digital signal into a mechanical.

S2 clusters are like $30 and you have to run a few wires for the sendor.

There is a way to keep your cable dash
There is a product called cable x
It takes an electric signal then spins a motor which spins the speedo cable
    But it's not cheap

Also even if u change to a series 2 cluster u might need a converter box depending if u have
1 or 2 speed sensors on the rear extension part if the box

Why not just use the cable drive off the MX83
If you have a slip yoke transmission going in use the MX83 driveshaft

its a fixed yoke on the output shaft with a tri-spoked flange

What about using the MX83 output shaft and housing and fitting a suitable speed sensor for the Aristo ecu? You will then have mounting and speedo drive and compatible slip yoke.

its probably a prick off a job especially if he has to change the output shaft and rear extension housing
cable x is made in usa so its probably cheaper than what I have had to buy it in Australia
u can run it of the 2 wire output shaft speed sensor on back of box
prob still cost you couple hundred dollars to get it sorted but that the fun of conversions
u just keep throwing money at it and all can be sorted

at this point, I think the least expensive way would be to swap to an s2 cluster and use an s2 sender.

with my 2jzge swap i used a supra motor and gearbox auto the auto gearbox pick up was electronic so i just swapped out the electronic pickup to manual pick and it picks up the speed on the dash no speed faults other then when i actually use the gears manually i get a speedo pickup error but thats due to me not having it wired from ecu to a pickup from the dash but this way my car is not limited to the Japanese 180km/h speed limit (i used the supra front tail shaft section to fit into the supra gearbox and mated it up with the cressida back section

    thanks for info cressid375.
I actually did the same as you. I used the mechanical speed sensor from the Cressida trans and mated it with the Aristo trans. I was unable to swap tail shafts because the length of the Cressida shaft is much longer. Now, when you say use the supra front tail shaft, you are referring to the driveshaft, correct? Also, the trans you used with your 2J came out of a supra so im guessing it was a 3 spline as well..thnx
