    Default T56 holden 6 spped to a 1JZ/2JZ adapter for my E30

    Yo peeps.

I have an E30 bmw with a 1jz half in it and am looking at using a T56 holden 6 speed. I have been searching for a while now and there are several ways of doing this.

There are adapter plates that utilise the auto bellhousing from a 2jz, problems are firstly that these have small bellhousings and the larger clutch from the gm cant be used. Secondly they are expensive as its complicated to machine and people want around $500 for them. There are cheaper ones that are two plates welded together that occasionally float around the forums but no -one seems to make them consistently and now when I want one there are none to be see.

The other method is one of these
    GM Trans Adapter Plate
Toyota 1JZ and 2JZ Transmission adaptor
BPP 2JZ to GM Transmission Adaptor Plate [BPP 1000] - $575.00 : Millennium Motorsports, E-Store

or something similar that goes on the back of the 2jz/1jz and allows the t56 to be bolted to it. Not sure how input shaft lengths would work out but that would inevitably be another issue. This type of adapter doesn't seem to have been considered but means larger diameter clutches could be used which means cheaper Gm clutches could be adapted to the 1j/2j flywheel.

Anyone have anything to offer or know of any other solutions. Basically I want to setup a T56 as cheaply as possible with a clutch to hold 400hp at the rear wheels. I know there are plans floating around the net but finding someone to make them is tricky.

    Cheers

I really thought this would have gained some interest. The JZ engines are fantastic but attaching a manual gearbox to them is expensive... I'm discussing how to work around this and nobody has anything to add.

doesn't matter now I got an R154 anyway...

    nothing is cheap
if it was cheap everyone would do it and it would break very easily

I would rather fit an l98 with t56
    then tru fit a t56 to a 1j heheheheh

When you crunch the numbers it doesnt make sense to put a termec box behind one.
    - Adapter plate
    - Clutch and flywheel
    - Custom mounts
    - Custom tailshaft
    - Shifter positions never ideal
    - Ratios are fucking shit (seriously, 2 overdrive gears? why bother)

You can call up a wrecker and get everything you want R154 wise within 10 minutes, it fits and the price is going to be less. Ratio's in a R154 are pretty good compared to what you get in a Commodore too
At the end of the day, too much fucking around with zero financial gain to be had.

Hey I'm currently building a VT with a 2jz single turbo conversion and a t56 I got the adapter made from 2 plates welded together and gonna get tilton twin plate clutch to suit 2jz flywheel and t56 spline. I'm gonna make a thread on here of my build soon, good luck with urs

NPC in queensland will do whatever you want as far as custom clutchs are concerned. A single plate with tremec spline would be quite reasonably priced. They are very helpful and switched on. Extreme may also be able to help but dont seem quite as keen to do custom stuff and are generally a little more expensive from what ive found.

Another consideration with the Tremec is the physical size of the box, they are by no means small! that was probably the main thing that has so far turned me off buying one for my cressida (If anyone knows of a mx83 with a t56 let me know). I know the R154 requires some massaging and the tremec is that much larger threw the guts.

Im not sure that a r154 can really be compared strength wise to the t56, the tremec seems crazy strong in comparison. A version of this came in v10 vipers in the states, reports are that drag guys are using them for 9 second passes. A little ae86 here in tassie broke a r154 with a 3sgte, granted it was pretty powerful but still in a light chassis.

You can buy CNC plans off the net and have a adapter machined yourself.

Holden dealer down the road had about 5 fucked T56's kicking around their workshop from Commodores before they threw them all out (yeah I know, what a waste). They are probably not comparable strength wise but they are not a weak gearbox. Put marlin crawler bits in and seppos reckon they are good for 700hp. 3SGTE in a AE86 wouldn't really have the torque or traction to reliably break them, guessing the box had been raped in Japan and didn't like the clutch kicks. Would of looked like a gearbox bolted to an engine too lol

As for a T56 in a MX83, few people have done it but your going to need more than a lump hammer to fit it. Think a few had sheet metal trans tunnels installed.
