Default Silvertop 4AGE and oil coolers.

What's the best way of setting up an oil cooler on the 20 valves? My track car with a freshly rebuilt engine was hitting 110 degrees whilst on track and 120 after I eased off before it cooled down which I thought was too high.

I've read that the sandwich plate off a smallport bolts on but doesn't have a thermostat but haven't verified it. I also would like to avoid having to relocate the oil filter if possible as I want to keep it simple.

I've also heard of people running oil coolers having issues with the vvt as it affects oil pressure, but it seems to be more of a blacktop issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about a thermostat, not needed for a track car to be honest and even in a street car 4AGE's are pretty hard on oil so unless its a massive cooler you will be alright. Mine sits on 100c driving around and like you, gauge goes off its nut on the track. Have seen 120c+ etc

Keep the lines short as possible and use good hose, you will have a pressure drop but a few psi wont be an issue.

I use a Greddy thermostat adapter block on my street driven silvertop. It makes the oil filter sit *really* close to the HKS headers, but when I get around to installing a bit of heat shielding, it'll be fine.

Check out my thread for pics of my setup (pages 11 and 12).

I swapped the oil cooler setup off my 4AGE 16V onto my Silvertop.
Only hassle was needing to put an oil return into the sump (you cannot swap 16V sump onto 20V...)

I figure I could always try to find an aftermarket sandwich plate without a thermostat and plumb it straight to the cooler.

Does anyone know where to buy them? Also what size oil cooler do you recommend to minimise pressure drop?

I happen to like Mocal adapters. Below is their thermostatic controlled unit.

This is a full cooler adapter... The OEM adapter is NOT a full cooler adapter.

Downside to this one is that the single inlet/outlet option means you might have some clearance issues with hoses unless you get creative with angled adapters. $$$$

The greddy unit (and the mrp item) have an straight and an angled option.
