    Default Air Flow Meter Adjustment

The Air Flow Meter in my car has been played with by a previous owner or two. In doing this the general rule of thumb is to mark the spot where the AFM metal clip is so if you have to go back to the original position after rotating the gear you know where the original position is.

My problem is there are two spots marked on this AFM gear.

Where the clip is situated now is more or less in the middle of the two marks i.e. the mark to the left is 8 notches and the mark to the right is 7.

Question is: Is there way of telling where exactly the AFM metal clip was originally ?

    Any help appreciated,

    Trevor

Logic would dictate they'd set the AFM to increase fuel, so I'd say, move it to the dot in the direction that would supply less fuel.

Here is a picture I found to show directions for a 3VZFE, assuming your AFM is the same, the dot in the clockwise direction?

assuming its for the supra, afaik i have a 5m and a 7m one of some variety in the spares stash, can you post the part number off the cover of yours. I'll pull the covers off mine and see if they've been messed with.
If you are sydney based you can straight swap it for one of mine if that helps. I'll post pictures tonight anyway

My initial reply has disappeared, so, just wanted to say thanks to HMI265 and worldwalker for their replies.

Since that other reply, what I discovered was the marks inside the AFM were where whoever had been into it before had marked both ends of the wire. I moved the gear back to where I believe it was originally. 7 notches is a long way!!! So far so good.

Also the idle mixture screw had been tampered with and while fiddling with it I discovered something I wish I'd known years ago having fiddled endlessly with my 22re's AFM i.e. there is a number stamped next to the idle mixture screw. Very hard to see on an old AFM, but, it's there. This number indicates the depth the screw should be.

For anyone who didn't know, below is the link to where I discovered this.

    So, all's good, for now.

    Cheers.
