    Default Steering knuckle removal SA63 / MA61

    I need to remove my SA63 knuckles, drill them out, and fit them to my MA61 for extra drift and such.
    But I can't get any of the four knuckles off!

    Step 5 on this page --> MK2 TSRM On-Line

    Using a press, disconnect the knuckle arm from the lower arm.
    Is there a trick to this? Am I missing something? They just won't budge.

    It's driving me crazy, I've been at it for a few hours now...

    Ball joints are inconsequential, I was intending on replacing them anyway!

    The thing is, the Celica ones are already out of a car More brute force I guess.
    Thanks Rob

    Hit it hard with a hammer along the length of it, and it will just 'pop' out.

    ^ thats the way. Bigger/heavy head hammer works best. must be metal faced. (need the vibration to break the taper) Use same method when breaking lower ball joint off the taper.

    Cheers for the suggestion Cruzida and Aust162, I did finally get them out late yesterday in a similar fashion, ended up using a 'stardropper' hammer thing and hanging the knuckle/LCA over a rock ledge in the yard

    This totally deserved more than 11 words in the TSRM.

    I just hook a crowbar or spanner under it, and belt it with a hammer on the side.. Usually takes only 1 hit
