one check that was not done was to check the timing with a light.

It might be possible if the 100K service place knocked the timing trigger off the back of the crank sprocket and put it back on out of alignment, creating a big timing issue.

A quick check with the timing light would confirm

Probably a stupid thing that you have checked, but, are all vac hoses to the MAP and fuel pressure regulator are where they should be?

Some 1js have power to front three coils and injectors and another wire for back. Three coils and injectors
Check for power to all 6 injectors and coils
Seen this ages ago by pricks who can't wire for shit and engine nearly starts but then stops

Put a noid light on all injectors and all coil plugs

    Anyway also try this
Disable fuel by unplugging all injectors and try running on aerostart
If no one can fix it get Shaun to call me and ill get it going

Ok so EFI just mentioned that there's low compression across the cylinders.

Now I know for a fact that before I removed turbo - compression was showing atleast 160~180 between them..

Tomorrow will do a leak down test and see what's the go there..

Question is ... if the leakdown test is OK , then just cam timing is out??

If its stock inside he wont have bent valves

that's the weird thing - cams / crank all lined up when we manually turned it over.

Yes it is stock inside, the cam seals weren't done. The belt was marked, removed belt, put it back on - so guess that's gotta be done again ...

Ok Must have been mistaken thought the 1j was an interference engine my bad

I was just thinking perhaps the guy doing the service had fucked up the timing turned it over realized then reset it to the correct marks

Check the injector and coil looms are on the correct way around my rb25 wouldnt start because I had put the injector loom on round the otherway as it looked tidier :s

Injectors are all good? ie if ones leaking could cause hydrolock or be two rich to start

This is perhaps something I should've known better.. but when the 100k was done. There was no turbo on the motor - so the mechanic couldn't have started it.

For some reason I figured it was ok to do the 100k while I'm waiting on the other bits - confirmed with mechanic if he thinks it's ok to do so - he agreed. So they did timing belt, drive belt, water pump - didn't start it (it had no turbo, radiator so couldn't be started anyway).

It was first attempted to start this past Saturday - thats when the above video took place.

Double check your your cam timing. Low compression and fast cranking definitely sounds like a timing issue.

thanks for the pointers fellas - will have them all checked..

I'm reading different things on various sites but can any of you confirm if the vvti 1j is a non interference motor?

. The turbo setup changed from parallel twin turbo (CT12x2) to a single turbo (CT 15B). The adoption of VVT-i and the improved cylinder cooling allowed the compression ratio to be increased from 8.5:1 to 9.0:1, making the 1JZ-GTE an interference engine. Even though the official power figures remained at at 6200 rpm, torque was increased by 20Nm to at 2400rpm.
