Default 1JZ vs. 2S power steering pressures...

Hey guys I need some advice if any of you guys are in the know with power steering pressures...

I have put a 1JZ into an SA63 celica and my steering rack lasted ~1500kms with the new engine before the pass. side seal gave up the ghost, started dripping once a second at idle with the boot off. The rack was the original one, 29 yrs old, had boots on both sides split and hanging off. So obviously its just old and the seals have deteriorated. I've sourced a remanufactured rack through work.

But! I'm not sure if the 1JZ's PS pump outputs a higher pressure than the SA63 rack will handle... Would the 1JZ have a much greater power steering pressure than the 2S, so much that it will ruin my reman. rack?

I've got jzx90 power steering cooler and was using full synth oil. The exhaust runs within a few inches of the rack so I've gonna shield the zorst at that section, this may help life of the rack, the fluid didn't seem to get too hot though.

    Any input?

i have a similar issue with my upcoming jza65, i was planning to use the ra65 power steering pump, custom brackets with a different sized pulley to hopefully keep the max rpm of the pump relatively similar or try to sort a pressure relief valve and run the 1j pump.

The ma61 rack is different but same era and may be similarly pressure rated , maybe the jz swapped ma61 people might be able to chime in.

Know its not much help but food for thought maybe.

I don't have any problems in my Jzz10? Same rack as MA61.

Okay... Ideas are starting to be sorted out now...

Fitting the ra65 (inlets on the correct side) PS pump to the 1jz is pretty much impossible without an A/C delete (easy), and some serious custom bracket work (not so easy)
I would need to mount the pump lower than the std 1J one because it would foul on the intake mani, RA65 pump is at least an inch or so longer than the 1J's. Next idea...

I'm not even gonna consider fitting a JZX90 rack to this car...
It would be a bit of a gamble putting an MA61 rack in, itll still be a 30yo rack...

Next idea is one of these:

It's a hydraulic bypass valve made by Tescom. adjustable from 100-3000psi, so I could install one of these inline on a T piece in the pressure line. Basically it does exactly the same job as the relief valve in the 1J pump, but I'll set it to dump at a lower pressure and bypass back to the reservoir. I suspect pulling apart the 1J pump and modifying the relief valve would be beyond my capabilities so this would be easier. The only trade off would be slightly heavier steering towards full lock.

Then I can say I've got fully sick adjustable power steering! hahaha
