2jz Bottom End 1jz Head

[P.I.M.P.I.N. Soarer]

Hi all I need help and ideas.

I am planning to put a 2jz bottom end and 1jz head combo in my 91 model Soarer. Im just trying to find the best way to go about it $$$ wise. Would it be better to get a 2jz front cut or just buy the engine and gearbox by themselves. Also what other modifications have to be done to wiring/mounts/tailshaft etc to make it work.

Why bother? You'd be doing a whole transplant into your 20 series Soarer but doubling your engine cost and for dubious benefit. Might have made some economic sense if you already had all the go fast gear on a 1JZ and wanted to get out to 3 litres after you shat the bottom end on your 1JZ.

Just get one or the other and be done with it. Both have plenty of potential.

look on the US supraforums, i think a few people there have done it.

As GiantTomato said there is no advantage in building a 1JZ/2JZ hybrid unless you've already invested a lot of money in bolt-ons for your 1JZ.

If you are considering a 1JZ head 2JZ block because you think the 1J head flows better, think again. It's been done and tested. The 2J head flows better than a 1J head. Remeber Yamaha designed pretty much all of Toyota's 'G' series heads. Obviously the 2JZ was a larger capacity engine with slight mods. But why 1.5JZ?? Sounds like you want to do it because you want to do it?
Don't get me wrong, it'll go hard, but so does a 2JZ. Not to mention a 1JZ, which I have Lots of fun!!

If you are hellbent on doing it, then do it.

But the main reason 1.5JZ conversions are undertaken is that someone already has a 1J in their car with all the go fast bits for it, but wants more capacity.

i would of put a 2j in mine but too much $$$ wish i had of now


get the 2j theres alot more aftermarket parts available, especially for the head (os valves, stronger stems, valve springs, bearings etc) none of that is available for 1j

Less people do it cos they are all gunna's not do'ers and would rather talk about it than actually do it.
Sure would have a noob scratchin his noggin as to how the hell ya have a 3litre 1jz haha
Assumin the noob knew what a 1jz was.....

And as for copying people, i bought a 1uz halfcut to install into my jza80 but now there a few that i know of in perth and probably a few i dont know of so ive changed my mind and have sold the halfcut. Its also more of a "bolt in scenario" than i imagined so that also influenced my decision.
Sure a 2jz block will bolt into a jza80 but how many do you see with 1jz heads and ancillaries........not too mention 1j heads are not a simple bolt on, they do need some welding etc.....
Sounds like more fun and more things that need doing to make it work
