Default live g series pinion lengths.

going to buy some 3.5-3.7 gears and i remember some one saying on here that some of the hilux/ace pumkins/hogshead are longer than others ? meaning longer pinion ?.
i bought my diff as a leaf sprung RN41, 5 stud rear end. ive found a few ratios on ebay, and im not sure if they suit different models ?
can any one shed some light ?

    cheers.

The bit that the crownwheel bolts up to has different offsets depending on the ratio of the diff. Not sure when they changed offsets but i know when people use a torsen LSD center from a supra in a hilux they need to use a 2.5mm spacer between the crownwheel and carrier. Earlier diffs up to about 1983 used smaller carrier bearings and had a solid spacer on the pinion instead of the collapsable one used on later diffs. I think the center out of a front landcruiser diff, which is a high pinion diff has the same offset as the Supra and is a four pinion center which is stronger than the hilux two pinion center.

cheers, i know about the spacer for other model LSD's but im using a full spool.
just needing to know if all CW/P gears are interchangeable on the live axle G series diff's. id hate to buy a cw/p setup and the pinion is the wrong length.

    thanx.

    Its long story

But shortly if you have originally 3.7-4.56. (Can remember wrong) then all aftermarket gears will fit. There is 3 different offset in a G pumpkins, check Nitro gears web page and technical notes !! There is also info with picture whats the difference between bearings and pinion design.

Pre and after 86 gears are different design, 86+ have ~1/4" longer pinion. Bought can be bolted to a same pumpins, just use correct pinion bearing with that new R/P kit. Basicly pre 86 is 7.8" and 86+ is 8"

Im using Nitro gears 3.9:1 old type short pinion in a 86+ diff and its installed with early pinion bearings, also using KAAZ lsd from JZA70 / MA70 supra with 2mm spacer behind ring gear. Originally my pumpkin was 4.3:1 LSD 86+ modell and pulled out from Diesel Hilux.

IRS diffs got different offsetts in a LSD units / so no needed to mess up with those, with rigid axle the offsett is changing in the pumpkin.... If you had 4.88:1 then there is no other gearsthat will bolt up to the pumpkin, radically different offset..

Doesnt matter what is it, bought fit. With correct bearings.

Some gear ratios are available only old or late type. And some aftermarket gear manufacturer make only early or late type gears, bcz bought fit.

Be sure pinion föange splines are correct, some type gears like new FJ got same gears but pinion splines are bigger.

Just check youre oem gear ratio and check from Nitro gears web page what gears pumpkin will accept.
