Default 18RG, Odd idle after a bit of a thrashing :S

Okay, So I rebuilt my carbies about 2 weeks ago and the engine about a week ago. Had it tuned and it was running great and went pretty good. Heaps more power and my engine doesn't leak oil anywhere She idled very smoothly at 1000RPM.

But... I was angry the other day and was driving the car rather hard... Now she has alternating idle habits. I could pull up to a set of traffic lights and she would idle fine, Nice and smooth at 1000RPM, But the next set she would be struggling to idle, roughly between 300-600RPM. She could be fine right after that though. It's weird, I have no Idea what it could be, So I'm hoping to get answers from some wise 18RG experts

    Thanks.

You might have introduced and air leak to the intake. Check all carb and manifold bolts are tight. Maybe do a check with some spray around some of the gaskets.
If it stumbles a bit now under acceleration check the jets haven't shaken loose.
Also check that the carbs are returning to the stops each time the accelerator is released.
All I can think of at the moment.

One more thing, what type of fuel pump are you using and are you confident it is still keeping up?

I'm using a mechanical rebuild-able type fuel pump. I do have a brand new one I could chuck on though but still I would like to upgrade to electric.

I'll suss out if there is an air leak today or if the jets have come loose. It doesn't really stumble under acceleration but I'll check anyways, You never know.
How do I get the throttle to return to the stop each time, I think that may be an issue... I have had trouble with it in the past >___> It's got a brand new, Nice strong tensioned spring to return the throttle so I can't think of what else would keep it from closing sometimes. Also, Why would it be closing completely now, After a thrashing? :/

Okay, I checked the jets the other day and they were loose. I done them back up and she was going great through the hills... So I gave her a thrashing again and the jets came loose again. I was told a bit of glue would hold them in better and not to use locktite? O___o

    Marcus.

Tighten the Jet Block with a very large flat screwdriver. Do it without the Air Jet in place, then add the Air Jet. If the Jet Blocks are tightened by putting the screwdriver on the Air Jet you cannot get the Jet Block firm enough.

Pilot Jets should be checked as well and be firmly seated.

Should not need any form of locking fluid when seated correctly. If you have to for sanity sake then once seated a very small drop of Araldite on the tip of a tooth pick can be placed between Jet Block and housing that can be chipped of if you need to remove the Jets.

This is a very typical issue with Solex users and is one of the biggest reasons they have bad experiences and tossing them for Weber or Dellorto or go to EFI.

    Regards

Did what you said, Thrashed the hell out of her all day. They haven't budged, Thanks mate. Should have thought of that though, Common sense Duh!

Tis all good now, I don't think I'll need any sort of adhesive. I also changed the O-rings on the plugs near the mixture screws while I was at it. Forgot to do them.
