there is someone here that has a 1jz in a VK.

would be a similar sort of conversion. basically you would need to make up some custom mounts and a custom gearbox/trans mount.

then there is the fuel system, exhaust, intercooler and electrical. it can definetly be done, as the VL has a 6 cyl motor already. i dont think that the 1jz would be much bigger (if any) than the RB30. If you can fit an RB26 in there, then you can get a 1jz in there

if an RB30 fits, a 1J will fit easily, might have bonnet fouling issues with the 2J, as it sits 30mm higher than the 1J, thats if the 1J only just fits height-wise though.

    2jzcalais,

I am in the process of fitting Jzz30 1JZ-GTE in to my VL, I am currently at the wiring stage, I had a lot of help from these forums especially from from a member on the old forum Dagleish (??) who had already done this and sent me some info on what he had done.
Now i'm happy to share the knowledge i have gain so far from doing this conversion.
Just post a specific question or PM me

I know this is toymods and all, but have you seriously considered the reasons not to put a RB 25 etc in it? it does seem like the obvious choice.. purely because of the much easier solution o gearboxes, mounts ancillaries etc.

I looked at the RB25 versus the 1JZGTE and the 1J is a better engine - especially if you want to do more with it than leaving it stock.

At the time the 1JZ's were a lot cheaper than the RB25 but not so sure now.

The 1J fits easily in places of the RB30 - it's a smaller overall size.

1j is a better engine no doubt... but changing makes can often cause more hassles than its worth.

nissan motors are physically enormous considering their specs and displacement

1j is obviously cheaper, but remember the exhaust is on the "wrong side" compared to an RB. could have steering rack clearance issues.

SL666 - changing brands is not an issue - all the connections to the car are engine mounts, a few hoses and the gearbox mount and tailshaft. Nothing that can't be made or modified.

sebatron - yes, the exhaust is on the opposite side but changing to a high power motor from the RB30 usually means a new exhaust is required anyway.
There is no issue with the steering rack clearance at all.

It's been done well and truly quite a few times now so make it a Nike job - Just Do It.

Which RB? RB30 exhaust is on the left from front(EDIT: No its not, damn im stupid sometimes - there's one in my garage)? Dont have any clear memories of other RB's in my absinth affected mind...

    2Jcalais,

Do it, with a 1J coz the VL will fall apart if you fully unleash a 2J on it ha. Then put a big F.O. "1JZ-GTE inside" sticker on the back windscreen just so the barelyHOLDENtogether freaks arent mistaken.

But seriously. I think you will find more examples of 1J conversions, and there is plenty of potential there within, as well as being significantly cheaper to get your hands on than a 2J.
