I ask that people do not take this thread to a personal level. The changes were made in the best interests of the club members and in order to make membership more attractive. If you feel you need to make a protest, then that is fine, we will take your constructive comments into consideration. But please refrain from making personal comments. If your only gripe is not having a free classifieds section then I am happy for you to take your business to gumtree. You are however welcome to remain a member of, and contribute to the toymods forums.
Thanks,
Anthony

Maybe i am i tightass... but im also trying to help out other toyota fans find some parts they may need.
I would much prefer anything that i was selling to be advertised on toymods, so that it was available first for other members. However with other forums and gumtree being free, i guess thats where my stuff will go. And im sure others will do the same and the classifieds section will die. and the forum will get smaller.
i just dont see the point of paying for a club membership for something that i dont used often. Ive been a forum member for almost 8 years and i've made 64 posts in that time... maybe if my post count was more id consider it.
Why not make the tech section access to be restricted to paid members only??? Realistically if i was locked out and had to pay to access the tech stuff i would sign up today. $30 seems like nothing for the value of the infomation in there.
I think you would get alot more paid members if this was to happen.
just my 2cents,
dan
You can argue it both ways. To say that selling parts is a service to others more than it is a service to your hip pocket is a bit rich don't you think?
If the tech section was locked out you'd find new users wouldn't pay. If they didn't know what they were missing, they wouldn't know that it was worth $30. That and I would think that as a concept is entirely against what toymods is about. It is first and foremost a place to share knowledge, not sell parts.. And you would be stopping non-paying members from contributing as well. Bad.
ed: If you think the tech section is worth $30 then why wouldn't you support toymods and pay it anyway? It shouldn't have to be mandatory for you to do this

Hi,
If your major reason for being here is to buy/sell stuff and not offer any other contribution, then pay up or move on.
The concept of Toymods is for freely sharing tech knowledge, and buying/selling is a minor offshoot of this. The For Sale does not keep the forums or club running, and most of us search gumtree, ebay, car sales etc etc on the net to find stuff, so not having it in Toymods usually means it is elsewhere to be found, and we do find them
So, move along and put your stuff on gumtree. If we like it and its a good price then we'll buy it. The forums won't die, and those that use it for free selling can leave, as the net effect will be neglible.

I've just paid membership for the first time. I barely use the for sale or non-car discussion sections, but i find this to be one of the best Toyota resources on the net, and if donating an hour or so's pay once a year helps keep it going then I'm happy to contribute.
Cheers,
Matt

Just paid the membership, and in my opinion I think $30 is a fair price considering the benefit. I also know how hard it can be to run a club having been a part of a few similar social clubs in the past. Thanks to all the board members who are doing a good job and now that my car is running I hope to be able to get to some events soon!
I do like the membership subscription reminder would have forgotten otherwise.. and paid easily by the links...
