Default 16v head on ST 20v block? with GZE pistons?

Due to a recently discovered case of fecked engine (bought engine. turned out to have munched thrust bearing = fecked crank and block)
I find myself in need of a new block and crank for my turbocharged smallport GZE

Problem is GZE's are hard-ish to come by lately. Now there's the opportunity to get hold of a Silvertop 20V, which I could drop my gze slugs into, however I have to stick with a smallport 16v head due to customised intake arrangement.

So my question is will a 16v head mate up to a ST 20v bottom end and what if anything should I be aware of before going ahead?
Things I was concerned about are any oil or water passages that won't match up and whether the silvertop has oil squirters.

If I were to use a 2mm head gasket to drop comp a bit would the silvertop slugs handle about 8psi? (I do know of several cases of high comp turbo 4age engines). I ask this because I'm happy to make do with that while slowly gathering parts for something nicer while my bank balance recovers from conversion rape.

Thanks in advance ladies and gents

Oh and before anybody mentions it I've spent about an hour stuffing around with searching through goog and had no luck with this particular question since everybody is doing the opposite!

The silvertop bottom end and smallport GZE bottom end are functionally identical except for the pistons and the oil drain pipe at the rear corner of the smallport head. Maybe some other tiny differences, but no biggie.

Thanks Terra. So would the ST block have an oil drain fitting for the smallport outlet?

Gazza, that is pertinent to my interests. PM enroute.

Nah, no drain fitting on the silvertop block, but the spot is there so you could drill it yourself or something I guess.

drill the pan(above oil level like stock oil cooler pans), install an internal thread(weld in nut) and use a banjo fitting...
