Default Need help on crank sensor compatibility

    Hey everyone,

The crank sensor died on my 3s-gte but I have complete 3sfe motor still sitting In my old camry and was wondering If the crank sensors are compatible.

    Cheers

The crank sensor on the camry only come in the 98+ ones from memory so if you have earlier than that you wont have a crank sensor. Not sure what 3s-gte you have but if it is stock it would only be the ST215 or ST245 3sgte which had the crank sensor and the only sensor that is directly compatible is the 3sge beams one as the camry ones are in a different location on the timing cover/oil pump housing so will not fit.

The motor Is from a ST185, thanks for that! I was driving home from work yesterday and the cut cut out when i was going around a round about. Tried to start it and It would'nt fire up but there was plenty of battery power. Checked to see anything out the ordinary and everything In the engine bay looked normal. Got RAC to come around and he proclaims there Is a faulty Crank sensor, but It can't be If It does'nt have one, LOL.

Car randomly runs again but It's getting a tune next week.

unless the RAC was talking about the distributor?

when you say it's getting a tune, does it have an aftermarket ecu and getting put on a dyno? or is it going for a "tune up" ie: service

He definitely said "crankshaft sensor", saying It was behind the timing belt, haha.
It has a Microtech Ecu and It's going on the dyno.

put the car into diagnostic mode and see what error codes it throws at you.
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
