    Default 2000GT Info

    Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has any info on the 2000GT engine and how far removed it is from say a 2TG?
I understand the obvious in that there are two more cylinders but the engines have a similar look to me... same valve cover paint carbies etc.
I guess that there is no engine manual floating around in a PDF format?
Can anyone tell me what gearbox is behind the 3M block? What bellhousing?

Interested to hear what people know on this.

    Thanks
    Noof

Other than from what is in wiki I couldn't say but I'd guess it's basicaly a G version of the 3M as the 2TG is of the 2T and the 18RG is of the 18R.
Wiki also mentions 5 speed which could possibly be the origins of the developement of the P51 transmisson.
Just found this not much info though.

    Thanks Glen,
There does seem to be a startling lack of information available about it.
Might try to collate anything I can find.
    Cheers

Maybe put it all in this thread and make it a 2000GT dedicated thread?

    Sounds good to me.
Might be a pretty short thread though!

Nah, the one I am thinking of was a PDF and it was like a scanned article. I may be remembering something else though :/

The engine was a 2.0 L (121 in³) straight-6 (the 3M) based on the engine in the top-of-the-line Toyota Crown sedan. It was transformed by Yamaha with new double overhead camshaft heads into a 112 kW (150 hp) sports car engine. Carburation was through three two-barrel Solex 40 PHH units. Nine special MF-12 models were also built with the larger but SOHC 2.3 L 2M engine. The car was available with three different final drives. Fitted with a 4.375 ratio axle, the car was said to be capable of reaching 135 mph (217 km/h). It could get 31mpg

Bit of trivia - the 'Bond car' in You only Live Twice was a GT2000. Toyota made a convertible specially for the movie because Sean Connery didn't fit into the hardtop.
