I put a silver top into my ae82. im very happy with it as a street car.

my mechanic (who is a toyota specialist) told me that the black top ecu can be used on the silver and it actually runs better with it. and the 6 speed gearbox will bolt straight onto the silver top. you can also get a lsd for the silver top(next on my list).

the silver top is a tuff engine. i abuse it everyday.
the silver top revs to ~8.2 and i think the black top goes about 500rpm higher.

I think you're quite wise going for the 20v over a gze - that gearbox looks basically unique and I imagine it's not all that strong and as rare as hell. You really wouldnt want the torque of a gze ripping it to bits.
The only real problem I see is more of an aesthetic-technical problem. The engine will be mounted high, making the car top-heavy.

Have you thought at all about perhaps converting it to RWD or East-west FWD and getting a lower centre of gravity?
The other bonus is that gearboxes are easier to source should something break.

Some pics of the rear end suspension layout would be handy to see if there are any similar rear ends with diffs. Thinking about it, a standard 4WD tercel rear end should bolt up no probs. All you need do is leave the front CV outers in and get a rwd gearbox.

Wanna get back to this post to ask again, couple of opinions here that conflict. I am primarily interested if I can swap the AFM harness of the S/T to the MAP harness of the B/T. First post in this thread says NO second says YES. I am not interested in any "performance" reasons for the switch more interested in having the ability to drop the intake plenium out of the picture, having the ITB's it great but I would like to show them off and covering them up seems silly. So I ask again can it be done? I am thinking that i could possibly swap over the heads and this would work but the S/T head seems to be better (from what i have read in comparing the two, if i am wrong please correct me)

I have no idea where AB is but if your in australia call toyospares in VICTORIA.
speak with matt. hes the one who told me that the black top ecu will make the silver top run abit better. thats all he told me as i wasnt really interested to follow it up further, as i could get a full after market ecu for under twice the price of the bt ecu and sensors.

I've heard about AE95 4WD wagons and the 4WD Tercels with 20vs in them. They'd be much better than a GZE as you wouldn't have the gearbox-destroying torque. Biggest problem with them in north-south applications is the dizzy and coolant pipes sticking out the back of the engine - Prepare to cut a hole in your firewall! Check out Club4AG for info on differences between silver and blacktops, and how to set it up north-south. What body shape is your Tercel? We only got the 4WD wagons...

Body was in piss poor shape but i have taken care of it, totally solid now, just needs bondo, sanding, more bondo, more sanding, etc, and paint. I know about the need to cut holes but i am thinking that i can find a way around it (switch to edis of crank angle sensor) I may also get lucky as it appears that i have a little bit of room to move at the back right now, also thinking that i may be able to shift the whole front end and stretch out the engine bay. (i've been conspiring to find a way to put a supra front end on) Fabbing is not an issue for me i have many connections to welders and know people that work for machine shops. the main issue i have found in the last couple of days driving this unit is that it is almost too light, especially in the ass end.... ... i have more to say but my lunch is over i will be addin to this at the end of my work day... and adding some pics to show what i am talking about.
