bump anyone?
or anyone i can get in touch with?
Hello all,
Well trying to squeeze a but more power out of the 1ggte fitted in my IS200.
I've fitted a single turbo GT3071r on a hks manifold, 550cc injectors, 1gge cams with adjustable cam gear, 1jz front facing inlet manifold with custom spacer, and turbosmart FPR. All controlled by a Link G4storm ecu.
When we've been mapping the car we've heard some overlap on the cams. I've searched the new and old forum and found it is the case with the 1gge cams, but cant find any details on the cam specs. Ive shimmed the cames correctly but now need some more info on the cams if anyone can help?
Ive found the lift and duration but need the grind centre of both the 1ggte and 1gge cams so I can work out how to move the cam gears to remove the overlap if possible.
If anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful!
Thanks

I had no benefit in going the 1gge cams. This was dyno back to back same setup turbo/ecu/everything and even dialing them in via cam gears, any change made adv/retard made less power everywhere.
Your best bet is to either get some billet cams made to ur specs or get regrinds. There also is now and again used hks 2g era cams on yahoo.jp, use importmonster.com.au to browse the site easier.

thanks for the reply mate,
did you measure the cams in any way?
Didnt do any measurements except to ensure proper fitment (clearances etc)

Fair enough. Well ive got them in now so going to see what I can do. With a bit of hhardworking I'm sure I can make them work some how lol
can you put some pics up of the 1j mani setup mate, need to sign up to see pics in the sig link.
Here's some pics:
Basically. The 1jz has a spacer that the injectors mount into. As the 1g injectors mount to the head I could replace this with an adaptor.
The ports on the manifold and head are the same height so just made a couple of drawings of the ports and made a 3d cad drawing then my mate made it up for me.
I had to fit longer bolts but it works, also looks a lot better than the centre inlet.
I also had to make a custom brcket to fit the alternator lower as its in the way, but as I've removed the aircon I had space for this.
right ive done the leg work on this now, from my first conclusions:
The 1GGTE has about 5 degrees of overlap on the standard cams, the 1GGE have about 75 degrees, infact the inlet starts to open as the exhaust is at its peak!
you need to advance the Inlet 1GGE cam by roughly 20 degrees, and retard the exhaust by roughly 35 degrees.
This will dial out the overlap the NA cams have to match more the 1GGTE standard ones. From there its little tweaks to get the most power.
Im going to dial these in and get the car remapped on the dyno so will let you know the outcome.
Hope this helps someone.
Hey man. I was going to use ge cams in my gte build also. What kind of power improvement did u end up getting with this after u dialled out the overlap?
Well its kind of a long story, basically all the measurements i took were no good.
i did some more work on the engine and discovered when the car seemed so low on torque. Basically the pin from the cam to the pulley had slipped back into the pully, this had allowed the exhaust pully to slip round creating all the measured overlap i had.
so i made some longer pins up and fitted it all back to TDC. then we did some crude measurements to line up the cam peaks so they were in the same position as the 1ggte standard cams. This theorectically should be the optimum position for them.
To do this luckily i have a spare engine so i fitted the 1ggte cams to the spare head and set them up to tdc, then measured from the seal face of the cam covers to the cam that was nearest that position and lined up the 1GGE cams to match.
Using the marks on the adjustable pulley (their the ones that were made by a member on here) the exhaust were advanced by 5 marks, and the inlets by 1/2 mark.
I havent had the car roaded since but the car was a hell of a lot faster and had a lot more torque than preiously, so it definetely worked.
pm me your email and ill send you some pics of my cam positions
Any details, sparky stav on how your 1g setup is coming along ?
What do you want to know mate?
Currently taken the Cardiff the road for a serious wire tuck and upgrading fuel system to external Walbro 392 and swirl pot. But the engine is staying the same.
1ggte
1gge cams and now cam covers.
Hks log manifold
Gt3071r turbo
Turbosmart wastegate
Custom 1jz inlet manifold
1gfe oil and water pump
1gfe alternator
Turbosmart FPR
Nice setup !
1J manifold sounds like a good nod to get that air rishing in from the front >>>
1G's are known for a bit of oiling issues so its great to see you have the 1gfe stuff on.
Any idea how much power you were pushing at the treads with this setup > and how did the boost come on with the 3071 setup !!
apart from the fact i'm curious as anything seeing i have a 1g that will one day be revived i'm wraped that you have some decent mods to your 1G and that you've posted !!
I find that the 1G's arn't too common to be modded and there isn't too much info on the to be found thats an specific !! usually just some throw a single on and there forth talk. >>
Loving the work you have done so far![]()
