The Good thing is once you get it converted and have had a bit of fun

You can raise the bar by finding a Supercharged Ecotec and dropping that in.

Well in a way he would be.. Toyota Lexcen?

In the early '90s in NZ I knew a guy who had a TE71 with a small block chev in it. On the same side of that coin I also knew a guy that had a mark 1 Escort with a 265 Valiant motor in it and another who also had a Mk 1 Escort with a P76 engine. Then the 1UZs started coming thru so that was all on. I at the time owned an SL/R5000 Torrie and had a hideously worked Mini for a daily drive. While I do regret selling the Torrie the most stupid thing that I've ever done was to sell the Mini. Yet that daily did get replaced with a "Tickled" EE90 Corolla. I lent that to a friend while I was away on holiday and never got it back. Did get some coin back tho. Well while some of us do not agree with his engine choice it is his car and he can do what the hell he wants with it. But he also does need to do the research to see what it would bring to him should he ever wish to sell it

man... most of you guys are on the hate.
so to all the guys that like the idea. heres the progress.

both have cable clutch so thats easy.
rear box mount is in the same position, give or take 20mm
commodore radiator will fit. gaining thermo fan
    engine mounts very close.
sump is front drop nice alloy setup fits strait in.
also i met a guy at the drags running 11s with a turbo 3.8 street driven corolla.

+1 for the build thread one little trick i know with ecotec is too make a 1" spacer and put it between the two half's of the inlet (top and bottom)to give a tickle the bottom end torque

don't worry about the haters, its the internet.

still a cool/interesting/different build regardless. Those ecotec motors have a butt-load of midrange torque so it should be a laugh to drive, even if the handling is somewhat compromised. And plenty of replacement parts if it ever goes pop.

are you planning to drive it on the road?
if so, are you planning to make it legal on the road?

if KE70 is listed as 970kg... you can get away with 3.88L NA, or 2.66L forced induction..
so.. can actually get it legal (i thought it was just under)

still, tough (and heavy) way to get 305Nm (eg for VY motor), whereas any turbo 2L will do that with maybe 8psi boost.. ie less than stock boost.

but if it's cheap you want, by all means go or it

edit: there was a KE20 somewhere with 3.8 Ecotec in it from memory..

The rattletec makes decent torque and they are $200, its not the most refined motor but if your skidding it then its a pretty good choice.

as if a 1JZ can be had cheaply and be modded chaeply for good power

to be fair tho, 1J will be longer, but not sure about heavier?

hell of a lot more potential, and factory have around 360+Nm vs 305 for ecotec.. then wind up boost with stock turbos...

heck, you even have a JZ powered KE70 panel van to copy from...
