May have disconnected an earth wire?
Hi All,
so having finally gotten over the TEMS setup on my celsior i organised for my mechanic to swap the tems over for coilover struts from an ls400. Anyway, picked it up today. When the park lights are on the reverse lights comes on on the dash, the reverse beeper beeps in the cab (regardless of what gear it's in) and lastly, when it is in drive it will not change out of first gear. When the park lights are off everything is as per usual. Does anybody have any ideas on just that the smeg could be going on here? I didn't have time to do anything with it so i dropped it back at my mechs to see if he can think of anything as we're both kind of stumped. It drove there fine the other day.

disconnect both rear tail lights and see if problem goes away
if it does then like mad said maybe a bad earth
and tell yr mechanic that yr not paying for the fk up heheeh

was just randomly thinking that these have a notorious issue with the wiring loom in the boot where the hinges wear away at the wires and they can earth/fuse etc together. Will have him check that first thing tomorrow!
I don't think he did anything and he's a good mate anyway. I'm hoping it was just a coincidence

yes ive read about that and it causes all weird shit
maybe similar to your car
try opening and closing the boot or wiggling the wires around there when the problem is happening
im wondering if it wont change out of 1st because ecu thinks its in reverse
probably got a short between the reverse wire normally red/black trace
and park wire which is normally green
yeah will hopefully finish work early today and have a look at it. The reverse light on the dash cluster is always on (and beeping) while the parkers are on. I'm changing it to a manual soon but having 2nd, 3rd and 4th would be really handy to have in the meantime. Need a second person to see if the reverse lights are coming on at the back too

so, checked the wiring harness at the hinge in the boot. 4 shredded wires. Now fixed. Should get it this afternoon!

I once had the same issue with one conversion, transmission won't shift past 1st. Turned out I connected STA and NSW terminals vice versa. ECU thought it's in N when actually driving

Engine conversion is when you drive a shitbox which costs a whole LEXUS to own
I'd say It's the Shifter Selector switch in the Automatic Box that keeps giving power to the "R" wire for Reverse, telling your ECU that you are still in Reverse when your in Drive, so the ECU is in a Limp mode where it will not control the gearbox to shift gears..... because your reverse lights are on, the gear switch must be forwarding power to the "R" Wire.... or something else is shorting and transferring power to that wire somewhere which is telling the ECU that you are in Reverse, when you are not.
unplug the inhibiotr plug on gbox and see if rev lights still stay on
this will tell u if its the inhibitor or the common faulty wiring in the boot causing the issues

all fixed... it was the wiring in the boot. Park light was shredded as was reverse, they were joined so the park light power was being sent through the reverse circuit. Diodes here would have been a godsend......
