    Default TA22 brakes.

    Help needed!

I have RT/XT130 struts on my TA22 and I used the RT hubs and discs which were bigger than the Celica discs.

This is where I am a bit confused.....I am sure I used the Corona calipers which are single pot but they look just like TA22 calipers with the slides and same pads. Is this right or have I fitted Celica calipers??

I want to upgrade the single pot calipers to two pot Sumitomo calipers but not sure if they will replace the calipers I have without any problems.
There are lots listed on Ebay but I am not sure which will fit as the ones i THINK will fit are not for my year of struts.

    Help! Please!

    as above ....OR

Can anyone supply me with a part number for MX62/63 calipers so I can try the RA60/MX63 brake conversion for my TA22...i already have XT130 struts fitted.

Over here they won't try and obtain a part without an actual chassis number or part number and I would like to know I have the right part number before ordering a set if they are still available..
    Many thanks

Edit: Carjunky.com list a few for an MX63 but which one is the right one as they all look different!

I can tell you that the twin spot calipers will bolt straight up.If the 130 struts came with the single piston calipers then that would be correct and they do look much the same as the Celica ones.
    Cheers Brett.

Thanks for that Brett...it's appreciated and it is the simplest way to upgrade the brakes. I can get cross drilled solid discs for the XT130 struts that would fit the twin pot calipers......so..

ANYONE GOT A PAIR OF TWIN POT SUMITOMO CALIPERS TO FIT XT130 STRUTS? please!!!

I have also put this in another thread so forgive me for repeating but if I can't get Sumitomo calipers I will go the RA60/MX62 route but I DESPERATELY need to know what year of Cressida, engine size and type so I can order the right calipers.
Any help on this would be really appreciated!

    Right.....I'm making progress!

I know a Pajero master cylinder fits the TA22....but can anyone please tell me what year/engine size??

I can get them over here if I know which model etc.

I aren't giving up on this! My TA22 WILL have bigger brakes!!!

EDIT: I know I'm talking to myself here but i just ordered one for a 1990 non abs........only £30 so worth a shot.
I'll let myself know if it fits!!

    Cheers mate! Thank you!
Seems like I've ordered one that needs that banjo fitting.....other than that I might be good to go.
I've also noted down some part numbers if it doesn't fit so thank you once again!

Also, Javal from the Corona thread has a pair of twin pot Sumitomo's .....so we are starting to make real progress at last.

I'm sure with twin pots, drilled and grooved RT132 solid discs and a Pajero M/C I will have decent brakes!

    Right.......the Pajero M/C is in!

A very easy replacement and the original brake pipes could be altered to suit.....no hassle whatsoever. Took about 20 mins!

    And.....it works!

The pedal feels normal again and the brakes have more bite. It has also put a bit more bias to the rear than before but it doesn't lock the rears first. I did some serious stopping on a clear road to find out which end was going to bite first. You can just tell the back brakes are playing their part. When I rallied one the bias was on the back so that they did lock first..only way to go round corners!
This is a great improvement already. I am buying a set of twin pot Sumitomo's and a set of new rotors.....so with decent grade pads it should be fine.
I know it's not all out ventilated discs but they may come in the future....if I ever find a set of MX62 calipers!

I would just like to thank everyone who contributes to the Toymods Forum.......the information you have all passed on has come from real hard graft, experimentation and the stubbornness to get what you want for your car!

The knowledge on this site is priceless.

After reading all the brake upgrade threads I knew which route would be the right way for me just now, so armed with that knowledge I could search for parts knowing it would work.
Many sincere thanks to you all!
    And Merry Xmas too!

Good stuff......glad to hear it all went to plan and you got the right result at the end of it. Certainly makes a big difference over the standard '22 setup and all bolt it with very little hassle.

Yes it's a very easy upgrade.
I have ordered some new discs and am doing a deal on some twin pot calipers......will complete the package! It's already better than std TA22 brakes.......

    PROBLEM! Help needed!

The twin pot Sumitomo calipers don't fit my struts!

The distance between caliper bolt centres is 90mm on the calipers I have bought and approx 133-135 on the caliper brackets on the struts!

I know my struts are definitely XT130 struts because they came from NZ and had the Toyota part number clearly visible before they were painted. I cross-referenced the part number through my Toyota dealer and he confirmed they were XT130/RT132 struts. So I know they are correct.
I think the calipers must be from an earlier Corona and the Ebay advertisers got it wrong.....I'm not looking for a refund just the RIGHT calipers!

Can anyone please confirm the bolt hole centres for the correct twin pot Sumitomo calipers......please! (

It would really help my search!

EDIT: This is driving me nuts!
I have searched this forum and know that the twin pot Sumitomo's are 90mm spacing same as mine...pics I have seen look like the ones I have bought.......and if so WHY does my struts have 132 ish spacing for the calipers??
What struts have I got?? The pt numbers 48520-20020 and AL9 KYB say 130.......

    ANSWER to the above question:

After 4 hours of solid searching I finally found my answer buried deep in the C/P/H thread.....thanks to "WDE BDY"....my struts are indeed from a NZ XT130 but have the unusual caliper bolt spacing of 130mm instead of 90mm.

I either need new XT130 struts (impossible to find over here) or different calipers........

Does anyone know what caliper would fit an XT130 strut with 130mm bolt spacing......

I have a lovely pair of reconditioned and painted Sumitomo twin pot calipers looking for struts!

Any help would really be appreciated.....I am really trying guys! (

    The saga has ended......happily!!

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Josh (Javal) on this Forum....his kindness and desire to see it through have made it happen. Thanks Josh!!
It turns out that I did have the right twin pot Calipers but the wrong XT130 struts. Mine were NZ spec and came with Celica sized discs and hubs but seemed to have XT130 wheel bearings that fit the XT130 struts. I know they used TA22 pads because that's what I had fitted.....it seemed to be a right mish mosh of a spec!

Anyway, Josh sent me a pair of the right XT130 struts and my calipers immediately bolted up but the spacing of the discs was different and my hubs and discs would not align with the caliper!!
We measured disc heights and mine were about 12mm lower and so I tried to obtain a set of discs over here...no joy!
Again Josh sent me a pair of new discs and his s/h hubs and thank heavens he did because even my hubs had different disc spacing!
Anyway once I had all the right bits it was a 30 min job that actually took me 6 months to sort!!

They may not be the ultimate in upgrades but with Greenstuff pads they really are a HUGE improvement over the TA22 set up. A Pajero M/C is also fitted.

    Many thanks Josh..I owe you!

Just a few pics of the XT130 brake set up on my TA22.

The Bilstein B6 inserts are superb and I would recommend them to anybody.

I have EBC Greenstuff pads fitted but they don't do a hotter version. Does anyone know of a really good track pad that can be cross referenced with the XT130 pads? Ferodo, Mintex etc. don't list them for the Corona but I'm sure other makes fit if I just had a model number.
    Any help would be appreciated!
