i didn't shorten them in my TA22 and don't seem to have any issues....
i used std xt130 struts and lowered king springs - seem to have enough travel also.
there seems to be a variety of brake upgrades using the corona strut, but these need to be shortened to fit the ta22.
what have people done to overcome this while keeping the car engineerable. Also what suspension changes are needed to suit?
note; the RTA tech say that cutting and welding struts (or any suspension component) is not allowed.

heres the thread

so you simply used king springs to suit a ta22?
also what inserts did you use?
anyone else care to share their experiences?
yes. i used the lowered king springs to suit the TA22
i used xt130 std front strut inserts also.
I have used the Corona struts in 2 TA22's, an RA23, and an RA28.
The first TA22, I measured the height of the spring platform from the strut top, on both Celica and Corona struts. I then measured the free height of the Celica spring, and subtracted the difference between the the struts platform and strut tops distances, and came up with some magical figure.
I then went to my Kings Spring supplier, and ordered lowered Corona Springs.
And yes they work well.
cheers Chuck.
try this on for size
the number on the right was 655
hope this helps
thanks chuck and grega, also, have your cars been engineered for you brakes??
no matey, however as its a bolt together upgrade only requiring a very slight enlargement of the holes in the brake rotor, engineers love it (no fabrication) - so easy to get engineered as part of the current NCOP woftam
if the struts are 15mm longer, and i put in springs that are meant to lower the car by 30mm, does this mean the car will sit 15mm lower than standard???
cheers
josh
kugzs, yes mate all of the Celica's fitted with the Corona struts have been engineered.
Corona RT132 struts,
RA60 discs and hubs, and
MX63 Cressida Calipers.
2x TA22 with 2TGEU EFI, 1 x RA28 with 1G-GTE, and 1x RA23 with 1JZ-GTE (VVTi).
Q : "if the struts are15mm......................."
A: If the spring platform is 15mm higher, then yes, the 30mm lowered springs will only give a drop of 15mm.
The overall length of the complete assembly really does not matter. Because we used new TA22 /RA23/RA28 shocks, not the Corona shocks.
cheers Chuck
"Back to the struts themselves. As you probably already know, these struts are too long for a TA22, but only by approx 25mm. If you are like me and want to put them in as a temp fix, then you could quite easily get away with it. Apart from being the wrong total length, the lower spring clamp is also located differently to the TA22 strut. I fact this too sits 25mm higher up the strut than the TA22 one, meaning the if it is not relocated, a spring of 25mm shorter length will be required for the correct ride height.
Having fitted the corona strut into my TA22 unmodified, I think that the camber is also not right"
this is a quote off the old forums.
does anyone else want to share their experiences
has anybody used the hopper stoppers kit ona ta22.
any probs with installation?
any feedback?
thanks
