Don't know if this helps but i've been driving "sams 7mgte conversion" for 30,000k and the clutch is still perfect.
hi everybody, this is gonna sound a bit noob and i have had a look around but i would still like some other peoples opinion.
i have an 85' MA61 with a 5me motor in it, my clutch has been on the way out for a while but i was have a bit of a play on the way home from a mates the other night and it decided that it didnt want to play ball anymore. i am currently rebuilding a 7mgte to go in to said car but i dont want to have the car sitting around for 2 months while i get everythig rebuilt and ready. (time period because me and my dad are rebuilding it in our spare time after work to save money) i read Sams MA61 7MGTE conversion thread and was wondering, if i get the 5M HD clutch will it be strong enough to cope with the power of the 7M later on or will it just slip, it wont be running big boost (approx 7psi) or am i just going to have to replace it again with a 7M clutch again when i change the motor??
is it worth putting the 5M HD clutch in or just letting my baby sit and putting the 7M clutch in at the same time as the motor.
cheers in advance
josh

Hi,
If the clamping pressure of the 5m hd clutch is the same as a stock 7m clutch you will be fine, if it's more thats a bonus for you.
Any good clutch retailer will be able to tell you the clamping pressure's
I gather that you will be using the 5m clutch and flywheel ?
Cheers
Brad
yeah, that was the plan, unless the 5m gear packs it in something feirce.
