    Default 2TGZEU diagnostic help

    Hi everybody!

So this morning I popped the hood to check the level in the newly fitted oil catch can, and to my surprise I discovered that after about 800km it had filled up with roughly 100ml of clear fluid. Now I'm assuming that this is petrol (it was in the work car park so I wasn't going to start draining it) escaping as blow-by, but it seems like an excessive amount.

What would causing my engine to be expelling petrol through the Crank case vent; leaky valves? Or is this something other than petrol and a more serious problem?

    Cheers
    Seb

There has never been fuel in any puke can in any engine that is still capable of running. Yes, it does have a fuel/oil/petroleum smell.
    Condensation from blowby.

I'll second it being water, especially if the car was almost never truly warmed up before the catch can (oil temp follows water temp, but only by about 10 minutes in normal driving).

I had one car with a faulty thermostat being used for deliveries back in NZ. Mysteriously my personal car "ran out of fuel" and I had to take that work car home when the "mechanic" wasn't looking. First time I had the car warmed up all the water boiled out of the system and turned the insides of the rocker cover white for almost 15 minutes. A catch can would have filled up with this water.

    Hmmm water you say...

The car gets driven to work and back (20km each way) so it's not really short trips with lots of cold starts. It does cruise at 120km most of the way though. I don't warm it up in the moring but just drive it mildly for the first bit till it's warmed up a little.
