prices ill have to find the invoices, ill get back to you on it.
we work with stainless steel fabrication every day and 304 should ALWAYS be used for exhausts as 316 will work harden with heat and crack every timeOriginally Posted by 30psi 4agte
stainless steel or ceramic coating first is the only way to use the wrap as it will hold condensation and steel components will last about 6 months and fall to pieces with RUST!
My experience is that the wrap works much better than the coating my engine sees prolonged periods of verry high load and underbonnet temps is a real issue melting many components along the way
i have wrapped stainless steel pipes and seems to work verry well, i also use basic aluminium shields all over the place too simple yet efective
other way round! coating works better than wrap. ive only used wrap if we didnt have time to get it coated before a race etc. if the alloy coating is done properly it works very well! hahaha as i get a bit done i get a good rate. my parents have one of the big hooded 6 burners BBQ's and the enamel was getting so so. i got them to strip it and coat inside and out of hood and base and then i changed all the bolts and screews to stainless and the heating and grill bars to stainless and made a stainless tube opening handle!lol
instead of needing 3 burners on full to get it to hold max temp, it only uses 2 buners on half to do the same thing and saves a shit load on gas and looks hot!
all up it cost me a grand total of $300 which i reckon is good money for a top BBQ.
hahaha just thought id share!

so just going off real observations
the coating keeps more heat inside as thermal energy. the radiated heat dosnt really matter unless you have a restriced flow engine bay so the heat cant get out, then the glass lagging helps.
You can get sheets of that ALC heat sheld for $45 off ebay. $10-15 delivery if i remember rightly.
Think i might get some of the heat sheilding to protect the area and later some coating for dumps and perhaps manifolds. I got a quote form jet-hot. They said $66 per 30cm of tubing on the dumbs and 2-300 for the manifolds. Just so every one else has an idea of what they're up for![]()
Also forgot to mention you need the 'extreme' or what ever its called if your running about 8PSI as the aluminum in the coating has a tendency to melt/oxidise in 'high' boost applications.
I was told this heat wrap stuff isn't that good an idea as they absorb oil fumes and dirt etc..after a while...catching on fire.

THats why you spray them with a hi temp paint to seal them.Originally Posted by jonchai
I tend to agree that the wrap will fall apart and become very brittle with sustained high temps 600+ degrees cel.
Yet on a mid 20 degree day and giving my car a bootfull for a decent time frame, i havent seen a reading above 400 degrees cel. from the turbine housing.
So even for a full house street car it would be fine. I'd say different story on the track though.

most cases its fine! main prob is when you spill oil on it or it gets squirted with oil! trick is to paint it with high temp paint after you put it on and it dry's, then the oil cant get in.Originally Posted by jonchai
