Default 1995 hilux with 1jz vvti speedo cable required.

Hey lads. as u see i have a 1jz vvti in my lux 1995 2wd rn85 model. I have an old supra cable installed but the speedo is around 10kms off. also it bounces around.
Can these be custom made or what options do i have to get the correct and stable reading.
    cheers.

    Hey Locky ..

Usually bouncy speedo needles is due to kinks or very tight bends in the outer cable or dryness to the speedo cable inner, check over your old cable outer for kinks & also remove the inner cable & give it all a light smear of grease over the entire length & re-install ..

Regarding the speedo reading out if you have a local speedo guy in your area they should be able to re-calibrate it & also possibly make up a new cable if you need one ..

Is the speedo off by 10km per hour all the way or does it get worse as the car speed increases, if its 10 all the way the needle needs resetting if it gets worse as the car speed increases it will need re-calibrating ..

    Rob ..

You can change the gears to correct the speedo calibration. At the moment it will be out by a % (that's why it's worse when you go faster ). The cable is the cause of the 'wobble', but not the error.

There is a metal gear within the gearbox and a nylon gear on the section that the cable screws into. Both can be replaced (the metal gear within the gearbox does require the gearbox to be disassembled however... )
The nylon gear can be replaced by removing the section that goes into the gearbox that the cable connects to, but you need to know that this gear needs to match the correct internal gear. The gear will have something like 11:32 on it, this means that the nylon gear has 11teeth and mates to the internal gear of 32 teeth. There are different teeth number internal and external gears.

Check www.toyodiy.com to see what I'm talking about re the gears.
