Hi Guys,
New member here that has developed a strange facination with ms65 Crown's. I am now officially on the look out! In an ideal world I would stumble across a wagon but I am figuring that there are only maybe a couple in the country that would have come in as private imports - is that correct?
Bassically I am looking for car with minimal rust with an expectation that I will spend the next 5 years of my live looking for rare bits of trim etc, whcih I am cool with, but I am interested if there is anything else I need to be particularly aware of when looking at a car - mechanical stuff is not an issue, but if there is something that you need but just cant get for the cars, then I would want an ayes up about that.
I am wanting this car to be a keeper and a family cruiser (got three kids). After having lots of european and austrlaian cars (Peugeot 504's and 404's, Renault 12's, Alfa Suds and 105 series, Triumph spitfire, Ford Zephyr wagon, Lada Niva, HK Wagon etc), I have come to the conclusion that the coolest cars around now are actually old japanese (65-75) and that maybe the ms65 is the coolest of the lot. My experience with japanese cars is owning a pristine series 2 Rx7, looking after my wifes camry when she had it and a couple of landcruisers. Now firmly in familyvillle with an ef fairmont and eb falcon wagon.
Anyway any info on old crowns appreciated.
griffdog welcome to the forums
there are many crown lovers in victoria.. and some very cool ms65's getting about in our club
ms65's seem to pop up reasonably frequently in good complete condition for not much money, its just a matter of being patient.. wagons... nearly never.. have seen one in qld for sale a few years back and it was incredibly rusty.
join the crown thread in the general area of the forum, heaps of information there.
when buying i reckon the main things to keep an eye out for are rust.. and interior trim being in good nick... the mechanicals are easy enough to sort, so its more body work and the fine details like the chrome that you will need to worry about.
good luck on your hunt!
