Ok I found the oil pressure sender. I found it between the air con and the alternator, under a very manly bracket. Had to take off the oil filter to do it... But now the gauge works.
Any ideas on the thermofans?
Hi all, I'm about to send my GT-Z in for a road worthy and, amongst other things, the oil pressure gauge doesn't work and both thermos come on whenever the ignition is on. And I would like to present the car as flawlessly as possible...
So my questions:
Where is the oil pressure sender on this car?
Does it have an oil light?
Does the ECU control the thermofans?
Where are the coolant temp sensors for the ECU located?
I ask because I have looked all over the engine and have found three sensors in the water piping on the outside of the engine (one single wire and two two-wire items) and one decent sized thing with a single wire running to it underneath the inlet manifold (although this could be a knock sensor, I don't know what either looks like on this engine). All are plugged in.
I also have a single wire coming off the alternator loom (front of the motor on this car) that can connect to a spade terminal, conveniently with nothing nearby it can plug into.
The temperature gauge functions fine, but most cars of this era had a separate gauge sensor anyway.
Thanks in advance
Ben
Now Fixed: Turned out to be the oil pressure sensor not plugged in (just to the pulley side of the oil filter, in my case UNDER the air-con/alternator/power steering bracket) and what I assume was a temp or pressure sensor for the AC also not plugged in (passenger side firewall on an alloy block in the AC hose)
***EDIT: Edited for easier fault finding for people using the search function***

u prob have no air con gas in the system
this will bring the thermo on
Really? BOTH of them?
yes
i just had to fix a 20v into an ae92
the dumb fk workshop in gladstone did a shocking job
so i spent awhile ripping it out and redoing it
he had no temp gauge and no vvt and both fans were on all the time
some workshops should not get in over their heads because it just makes
it harder on customer on getting it fixed properly
the owner has now paid for it twice to get wired
Crap I do better electrical work than that... But I need to know what I'm working with. I'll have to look into how the switch operates, and download whatever AE92 manual I can get my hands on.
Is your car MAP or AFM? I have an engine wiring diagram that is apparently for a MAP AE92 4AGZE.
Afm. But it's still useful as it will give me an idea of what the ecu controls and the processes it could go through
The only wiring info I currently have on the car is an ecu pinout![]()
PM me your email and I'll send what I've got through.
its nothing to do with engine ecu
is because the ac system says its got no gas in it
or u have a break in the fan sensor wiring
Well I checked up on what you said, found two matching connectors miles apart but with appropriate length wires on them and joined it (same wire colours) and it stopped. Thanks dumbass (you should change your name...). + rep points, if this forum used them...
theres a reason for that name hehehe
so u joined the green/black wires together
Both were green, I thought one had a white stripe? Meh the important thing is that my fans work correctly now. Now into the hard stuff, like rust, and re assembling my door mirror... Never would have guessed I would need a valve spring compressor but oh well...
Snap-On or Valvemaster are the two brands to look at for valve spring tools.
