    Default 18RG lifting points

Hi all. My 18RG is coming out for a strip down and rebuild. I notice my engine doesn't have the hook on the RHS of the head for lifting. What I was gonna do was bolt a link of the chain to each mounting point for this hook and haul it this way. Any reasons whay this isn't feasible?

Also, while I've got you guys here, what is the intended second lift point? If it is like a Lada, the hole in the bottom of the block near the starter is the other suggested lift point... But I've learned to take Lada experiences with a grain of salt! Is it ok to lift from the bolt hole in the head diagonally opposite the hook mounting points?

    Cheers.

From memory the lifting points on the R-G are diagonally across from each other in the head. the front is the exhaust side the rear is the intake side. ( could be the opposite)

If you are going the chain idea make sure there is a goodly amount of thread in the hole.

Lambolica is dead right on the lifting points, front on exhaust side and rear above carbs. Just pulled mine out yesterday for the purposes of selling. Just get the correct thread bolt, and spanner it in until it wont go no more, exactly what i did yesterday, no problems.

    Hi,

I'm not sure if it's normal, but my engine has lifthooks already in place. Here's a couple of pics to show you where they are.

Here is the front hook. It's next to the aircon.

Here's the rear hook It's the crecesnt shaped thing behind the clutch fluid resovoir. You can see a similar shape on the front, next the the air con (ie the hook from the above pic).

As mentioned, they are diagonally opposite, with the front hook on the exhaust side and the rear hook on the inlet side - as per above pics.

I thought as much. I got some slightly longer high tensile bolts to suit those holes this morning, so I'll give that a shot.

    Thanks for the help lads!!

Garr! It be done now. And in record time!

Only problem was the ungrateful thing kicked me in the nuts... Do you have any idea how much it hurts to be caught in the nads by the thermostat housing on a swinging 18RG?

    BTW, nice pics River!
