Default X81 2jz-gte Conversion.... will these mounts sit motor to clear Brake Booster?

    Hi,

    I'm doing a 2jz-gte Conversion into a X81 Cresta.
I'm wondering will these mounts sit the motor in correct position
without the rear turbo hitting the brake booster, I think the 2jz is more susceptible to hitting
    then the 1jz.

The ebay add says they are based off JZX81 Mounts, but was not able to get any info from the seller
whether they are compatible with 2jz-gte.

    Thanks.

GX81 you should not have any issues with the brake booster being smaller. but then again these are Custom mounts not JZX81 mounts so i would not have a clue

If they are modelled off JZX81 mounts then they will work on a 2JZ-GTE and they will sit the engine in the exact same spot as JZX81 mounts so will hit.

The only saving grace is that some X8's came with smaller boosters so have a look at yours compared to these pics and see if you need to worry about it.

    - standard MX83 booster, note the gap from the booster to where the clutch master bolts upto

    - GX81 booster

    Rear turbo clearance:

    - MX83 booster

    - GX81 booster

yeah those are the same as the factory x81 mounts so as long as you have the smaller factory booster it will fit.

Throwing a noob question out here.
Putting a 2j in a gx81, pretty much just have to change the engine mounts or crossmember to jzx81 specs. Then the motor will bolt in without a hassle? Obvious gearbox, fuel lines etc will have to be changes/ modded to fit.
    Cheers in advance!

Its the same as a MX83 conversion - there are plenty of threads that cover this so have a search if you ahvent already.

Both the GX81 and MX83 were made in 2 versions, often referred to S1 & S2 and they have different crossmembers. The JZX81 was only ever released as a S2 so in order to use those specific mounts then you will need to change the crossmember, but you can use also use one from a S2 MX83. There are a few places that make S1 to JZ specific mounts to avoid this change but may invoke other issues with engineering or manufacturing tolerances (ie not being as tight as a factory cast item).

sleepycorty makes mounts to suit series one and two cross member and fits in the same as the jzx81 position.

    Another noob question.
    How can I tell if it's a s1 or s2?
And with the said mounts ^ are they a weld in practice or are the talking about the engine " isolator " mounts?
    Sorry for the noob questions!
I only have phone Internet and its pains in the ass to search stuff.

    Ok so

    S1 (1993-96) 2JZGTE non VVT-i

S1-S2 over lap(1996-97) ie the car interior was series 2 where as the motor was a non vvt-i

    S2 (1997-2002) Full S2 interior with a VVT-i Motor.

So now if you have a Supra 2JZGTE VVT-i then its a S2 if not then its a S1.

Also you can have a look at this link

I think he was referring to a S1 and S2 Cressida or GX81. What one is yours Wishin86 - Mark II, Chaser or Cresta?

The mounts I have referenced are the ones that bolt to the block (green in pic), they utilise the same rubber mounting bits between the two. Factory mounts are usually cast but I have seen some welded (from factory). Aftermarket ones I have seen have only been welded (like the above link).

The difference in the engine mounts is in spacing and angle, S1 crossmembers measures from the center of the engine mount base plate bolt hole to bolt hole is 523mm, and S2 crossmembers from the same place is a bit under 490mm. And the changeover date for the crossmembers was Feb 1990 to match the release of the 1JZ in Japan. JZX81 production started in Aug 90, the exact same time our Series 2 MX83 was put into production.

There are many visual cues externally, in particular bumpers and lights but if you let me know which one you have then it will be a bit easier to help you. Can you post up some pics of your car?
